Corey, that proves it. You don't get out much. :)
Tony is definitely working you too hard.

It appears that the kinda stuff this guy works on is not my bag.

There is some truth though to your statement.

Not dolls, ideas. I have a million IDEAS. Sadly, I only have a thousand inflatable dolls and at the tender age of 62, I'm afraid they're ALL used.

I feel sorry for the person that f-cks with Joe. He is a martial arts expert with a chiseled physique. He could probably fight UFC in his weight class and kick some butt.

Wow how bout some shocking news in the world of UFC! Randy Couture announced his resignation from the UFC after finding out that Fedor decided not to sign with the UFC. He also mentioned that he felt he was not being respected by the upper management, including Dana White, and he was not being payed the level he thought that he deserved for being champ. He also said he was lied to about being 2 highest paid fighter in the UFC behind Chuck Liddell.

This is devastating news for the UFC and will rock the world of MMA. One good thing is that I believe Randy will end up fighting Fedor... but it will be under the banner of the M1 fighting organization instead of the UFC.

Dana White was told by Randy at lunch a few weeks back that if he could not fight Fedor that he was going to quit. Randy being 44 and at the top of his weight division, this is the only fight that made sense to him. I completely respect Randy for doing this. Him fighting anyone else besides Fedor would just be for the money, him fighting Fedor would be for his legacy and each fighter would have a chance to prove who the best is.

For Dana White to allow the UFC not to pickup who everyone considers the top fighter in the world and have its own current heavyweight champ resign for the reasons listed is a HUGE failure on his part. And then to top everything off... He dogs Fedor saying that he is overrated and that Randy would have crushed him. Pretty much guaranteeing that Fedor will never fight for the UFC. I've stood behind Dana on a many decisions he has made in the past but this move of his has me really pissed off.

Now some other competing organization is most likely going to have one of the biggest superfights of MMA. A great way to any new MMA organization off and running.

Joe I'd love to hear your feelings on all of this.

I think that over the years Dana has more than taken care of Randy Couture. If Randy wants to go like this, then IMO, who cares? He has been taken care of by Dana White, Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta with some very high profile PPV fights, he's been seen on TV with the The Ultimate Fighter, and he's been given a few titles shots in different weight divisions. Dana has done nothing but give Randy opportunity after opportunity, and now he decides to turn his back? Good riddance.

There are many up and coming MMA fighters that would jump at the chance just to fight in the Octagon, nevermind cry and whine about who they fight. Those are fighters. They just want to fight and it doesn't matter who its against. It's my guess that Fedor won't fight Randy anywhere, and if that turns out to be the case, then his leaving will prove to be the dumbest move that Randy's made since he stuck out his chin for Chuck Liddell in UFC 57.

As the saying goes... there is a first time for everything. Blackjack I am very surprised with your feelings about Randy.

You said if Randy wants to go out like that who cares? I do. As one of his numerous fans I found him to be one of the most humble, sincere, and respectable fighters there has ever been in the sport. He has given a lot to the world of MMA/UFC and deserves the utmost respect.

You make it sound like he was just handed those title shots on a silver platter. He earned his way to the top by beating a lot of top fighters along the way and garnered respect from numerous fans and among the fighters as well. If a poll were to be done among the fighters on who they respect the most in the sport... Randy Couture would be at the top of the list no doubt. He is like the Efren of MMA.

I don't understand why you think Fedor will not fight Randy. They each have a lot respect for each other and the fight makes sense for both of them. Neither fighter are scared to get in the ring/cage with any man on the planet. I guarantee you that.

I'd be willing to lay down a wager that this fight happens once Randy is released from his contract. Hopefully that doesn't take too long. I imagine Dana White will hold him to it as long as he possibly can though.

I agree with you that Randy is a great, legendary fighter. My point is this - the UFC/Dana White/Frank & Lorenzo Fertitta have provided him the stage to prove his greatness. Randy has had some very high profile fights - he has earned all of those opportunities. I don't dispute that.

I just have a problem with him walking out on Dana like he was being abused or treated unfairly. He wasn't because that isn't how Dana captain's that ship.

I have many friends and business associates that are currently fighting in WEC and UFC. Not all of them are fighting on the big cards or getting paid a lot of money for fighting. Granted, Randy has earned his status and they haven't. They would all jump at the chance to be on ANY undercard. I still don't think that Randy's status gives him the right to walk out - and to criticize the UFC management while doing it. The mature thing to do is to take his next fight (even if it isnt against Emilianenko) win, then retire and said he had nothing more to prove and thank the UFC. But to come out and say that he's quitting and that its because he was "swimming upstream" with the UFC management? Thats a slap in the face to Dana, and Dana doesn't deserve that. Fedor made the decision not to sign with UFC, and IMO that was a dumb move on his part. Sorry. That's how I see it.

Given Randy's reputation and history I'll side with him on why he decided to leave. He is resigning on principal as opposed to money. How would you feel if you were a sports biggest draw and the guys in charge tell you that you are 2nd highest paid athlete they have and then find out that it was a lie? Randy helped build the UFC into what it is today. And if Randy Couture isn't be treated with the respect he deserves then that would lead me to believe that many other fighters are not either.

Fedor not signing was just the straw that broke the camels back. He is 44 and has nothing left to prove except for this fight. It doesn't make sense for him to stick around and fight any more fights in the UFC. The only match that would make any sense would be against Nogueira, but he was very lackluster in his first fight in the UFC and wouldn't be nearly the draw of him fighting Fedor.

With Randy leaving I think it sets a precident that the fighters in the UFC should be respected and paid what they are worth. UFC is bringing in A LOT of money and it seems to me that they are getting a very small percentage of that.

Thanks for responding to the PM. I guess we'll have to just sit this one out, knowing that we're on opposing sides of the fence here and just agree to disagree FWIW, I don't think this fight will happen anytime soon - not even in M-1. Randy still has 2 fights left on his UFC contract, so this might be Randy's swan song. I hope I'm wrong about that. BTW, I've seen Randy's place... believe me, he ain't hurting!

Smorgy I apologize. I guess I could have brought this up in NPR where they have 3 viewers every other week. :D I'm just trying to get Joe's view on this. This is huge news if you are fan of MMA/UFC.

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is a combat sport that includes all varities of different fighting styles including striking and grappling.

UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is the top MMA organization in the world which pits fighters against each other in a cage like you referred too. Joe Rogan who started this thread is the color commentator for the UFC which is why I brought up the MMA questions. It's great having someone like Joe on this board who enjoys each sport and is very knowledgable about MMA.

Well, when I competed in New Orleans 25+ years ago, it was just called the Meanest Man or Badest Man competition and it was in a boxing ring.
