Getting the 7,8

I was playing the other day getting the 789. We established before hand that if money ball gets made on a foul in gets spotted back up. I broke on game and came up dry. He called a roll out and proceded to pocket my 7 ball. I was like spot it up. He said that was a legal hit. I was like, hmmmmmm......... you are sure right. So it stayed down. I was just curious is this right or not?

are you playing 9-ball?

if so, he fouled and you get ball-in-hand (you can put the cueball anywhere you want then shoot).

Yea, its 9-ball. But it was the first shot after the break. He called a roll out. He then proceded to knock my 7 ball in the hole. So, now its my choice to shoot or not. But does the 7 stay down, or does it come back up?

What! Ignore the above advice.

If he pushes out, and sinks one of your money balls it spots. No way is it a foul.

If you foul on your money ball it should stay down.

He called push before the shot, so it is legal. Its a not so uncommon defense for a player giving up weight.

I don't know if this guy was kidding, but what other game would you be playing? Ten ball maybe. I think it comes up. He could do that every game and that doesn't seem right.

Well, I thought we established the rules before we started. We agreed that my money ball spots on foul shots. I figured that a roll out is legal, so my money ball should stay down since it was pocketed on a legal shot. Is this how most people play?

It spots up... If I broke, scratched and made my opponents money ball, it would spot - even if I pushed out. However, if I made my own money ball, other than the case ball, it would stay down - and this applies to any consequent foul shot.
Wow, the stuff people try... :D
Ultimately, in the future, I advise you to discuss such things when matching up.

Not around here... money ball spots in KCMO.

BCA 5.6
..... any ball pocketed on a push out does not count and REMAINS pocket except for the 9 ball..
I have never seen the money ball spotted in a situation like this other than pocket on the break with it not being wild.
Learn from it, and either work a better game out of your opponent or accept that this will occur from time to time.

After reading the above posts..... seems there is a difference in rules...... imagine that..... :D

the way i have always played it and I cant see it any other way is that the player getting the spot fouls it stays down. If it goes down on a foul with the one giving up the spot it comes up including on push outs

No it's not right. It spots up. He pulled a move on you, that's all.

Gambling rules 101....(Overrides and Supercedes, ANY and ALL other rules)

The ball spots, plain and simple.

personally I'd only expect it to be spotted if we established that before playing. Thats how it is played around where I live. I've always looked at spots as being whatever I negotiated.

Agreed. But I have gambled where the balls stay down all my life (in this situation). Never felt like I was pulling a "move" on anyone though. One of lifes little differences apparently. :D

me too...regional differences.

Thats what I was thinking, I am from Kentucky originally. Most of the posters that have said it spots are from the west coast...... So therefore we can deduce that the east coast rules are the correct ones and be done with it...... :D :D :D :D :D :D

Some of you guys out there really play that you can push your opponent's money ball in the hole and IT STAYS DOWN?! Honestly, I've never heard of anyone playing like that. I like like it if I'm the guy giving weight though!
