Giordano's pizza

I thought Gino's East is a bit overrated myself...I actually think Uno's (funny, I never had Uno's until after I left Chicago) is better.

What I used to love while I lived down there was Connie's. Don't know if they're still around.

All those chains are OK (especially Giordano's for deep dish), but now some individual stores are opening up that serve uncooked "gourmet" pizzas that they assemble to your order and you take home and cook yourself (not frozen). They're the nuts.

and in 06 my Bradley Braves upset Kansas, and Pitt (to make the sweet 16), of course they were doing this while I was in Dallas watching the Bucknell upset....LOL Couple of years before we were in Birmingham and saw Butler beat both Miss. St, and Louisville. I love March Madness!!! :D
 
Sometimes we order from Lou Malnati's in Chicago.

yes, they come UPS next day air packed in a styrofoam box with dry ice, even in the middle of the summer here in Florida, they are still frozen when they arrive.

The NDA is why the shipping is so much.

I grew up on Chicago style pizza, we used to eat at Dewy's when I was a kid.

Now I'm hungry:o

Gino's East is the best if you like sausage, hands down. Not the crumbled, but the wheel. It's one sheet o' sausage that covers the whole pie.

If you're not eating sausage then I'm a big fan of Lou Malnattis.

And completely un-pizza related, next time you're in Chicago, there's a pool hall in the west loop that serves the best bufallo chicken sandwich I've ever been near, in fact I'm going there for lunch in about 2 hours. http://www.g-cuechicago.com/
 
i kind of consider myself a pizza connoisseur of sorts and have tried many there is to offer from the Chicago land area and imo the best deep dish pizza in the Chi-town area by far is Edwardo's just over the border in Munster, Indiana 1/2 mile south of I-80/294 on Calumet Ave. the best thin crust imo is Aurelio's Pizza located in the south suburb of Homewood. Aurelio's has many other locations but they just don't compare to this one which is where it all started.

the kid needed a haircut BEFORE he came out. That pic was taken just before he was 3 mos. old, and after his 1st haircut....BTW, I need some of that hair. LOL:p

here's a pic still at the hospital (2 days old)...you can't even see his ear!!!!

This is one of Tommy Karabatsos' places (now run by his sister). The food there is all excellent, and the tables are all Gabriels (the best, IMO) - but the table rates are too high.

By the way, there's a new "gourmet" pizza place in town that's getting good reviews: La Madia at 59 W. Grand (north of the river near the loop).

I just got back from the original Aurelio's in Homewood about an hour ago. Great pizza and a great old building.

You're right! I grew up eating at Aurelio's. Funny thing is that most people I've met from the Chicago area never heard of it, it seems to be more of a south suburb thing. I lived in Richton Park from '79-'87 and still have Aurelio's cravings to this day, they have a totally unique sweet sauce in there pizza that us unlike any others. As a matter of fact I just shipped my dad, who lives in Seattle, a couple of Aurelio's pizza's last week, and he thought that was the coolest gift ever. I went to an Aurlelio's franchise in Vegas a couple of years ago and it was good, but I do agree that the Homewood locale is still better.

I agree with you on Eduardo's also, their spincach stuffed pizza is the best deep dish pizza I've had and I've tried all the more famous Chicago pizza places. We used to eat at Eduardo's pizza downtown Chicago, I guess they have one in Munster as well.

Where's he live out here?... think that he'd mind if I dropped in?... I wanna try some Aurelio's. I grew up in Chicagoland but have never had some. I may have left before they started the business.

And Nick's name is on the card. I don't know who owns it, but Nick & Penny are both there all the time, and their kids are usually around too. It's a great place... I will agree that the bills can get pretty steep, but I enjoy it enough that I don't mind.

There's an Eduardo's in Hyde Park still.. dunno about downtown. I like it, but never think to order it... just had it alot in college when people would order it for gatherings.

My dad lives out in Bonney Lake, but sorry to say those pizza's have been conusmed. I'm sure Aurelio's was open when you were out there, it started out in Homewood around 50 years ago. They reallly started to expand all over Chicagoland in the late 80's.

Man, I love Portillos. I'm surprised they don't have chains across the country like Uno's. Nothing can beat a Chicago-style deep dish pizza, but Chicago-style hotdogs surely come close!

If my job doesn't work out, I'm planning on opening up a Portillos franchise here in the South. The way people eat down here, i'm sure it'll be a hit. ;)

When I travel, I usually look for Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Del Frisco's, Sullivan's, Roy's Hawaiian Fusion, or the best local high end restaurants.

But every time I go to Chicago, I have to hit Portillo's at least once. It is probably the best mid-priced chain in the country.
 
I also live in Northwest Indiana and get Edwardo's in Munster all the time. They have a couple of them in Chicago, including Hyde Park. There used to be one in South Bend, but they closed. I'm sure I'll take some heat for this--but I like getting it with whole wheat crust. (I'm diabetic, so the less carbs the better.)

Aurelio's is also good. Haven't been to the original one in Homewood, but have hit a couple of others.

Now for the controversial part--I just moved to the Chicago area a couple of years ago, and have to ask. What the f@!** is with cutting thin crust pizza into squares/strips instead of pie cut? It drives me crazy!!!
