Given the number of quality cues made in the last 20 years, why are so few available?

It's simple, really. Production cues and cheap customs can lose half of their value and sometimes more when sold, even if they are in good condition. Most peoples cues pick up a few dings, which will drive the value down even further. Selling things, even online, is a bit of a chore and that is made even worse by moronic and annoying buyers who will complain about everything and try to pressure you to lower your price....A lot of people have things that they never use, but they figure having the option of using those items are worth more than whatever little bit of money (and potentially huge hassle) they can get out of them. Not to mention the fact that you may actually get scammed. I don't think I'd sell something for 100 dollars if it meant I had to reply to 12-15 annoying emails and even phone calls. My calm state of mind is worth more than that.

Yeah this post/subject is kind of a lightning rod for scorn and derision. But I'm a sucker for these kinds for things. More to the point, I really do not notice a deficiency in good solid cues being available in local markets for private or commercial sale. Mind you, I am in Florida and consider this a pretty rich cue sports community compared to the national as a whole.

I even host a Quarterly Equipment swap meet at my home hall. Every three months or so we all get together to see what is floating around in peoples "I cant use this for anything" drawer. Lots of good deals occur. We pull people form other rooms and they bring their junk in too so we can either chuckle at it or plunk down the cash.

I see no shortage of really good cues. The odd but beautiful Perry Weston cue, Limited edition one-off Schon's, Palmers, Scruggs, Old Joss cues with that sweet detail work in them, First gen predators, old McDermott's and Vikings. You name it, pretty sure it will pop up. I hardly ever see monster cues though like an Arthur, McWorter, Black Boar, Tascarella, etc. Searing, Black and Mobley cues float around, but never for sale in the past 4 years I've been here. What does strike me is how faithful many players are to local cue makers. Really nice.

I go visit the pawn shops from time to time,

Try hitting the Garage Sale circuit..... Some cues can be had for less than $10.

Think of the profit's...... If you map out your plan of attack, you could hit upwards of 40/50 a day.

Plus, it's a good way to meet chicks, right?

I have more cues quality than brains. Never bought anything in my lifetime with the intention of selling someday. Most are chalked not used and discontinued. Like a frog I'm staying around til I croak.... and the cues are staying with me. I will need them for the afterlife

I think custom doesn't mean as much anymore these days. There's less of a distinction between a good production cue and a custom job. And even less amount of people who can tell the difference. I've only gotten rid of 2 of my cues. My very first player $35 when I bought it new, and my first break cue. All other's I plan on keeping with me. They may or may not go up in value, but for me they are beautiful. I still have only one cue out there I would like to purchase. My unicorn if you will, and if I ever get the funds to buy it, I plan to.

How is anyone supposed to take you seriously when you cram 50 questions into one post? You start off with one question then by the end of your post you added 49 more.

You do this with every thread...

Doesn't matter.....NOBODY is gonna sell you one - too many headaches.
Jason
Didn't take long after the other threads were deleted for Justin to start trying to drum up business. Someone who didn't read them before they were deleted will sell him a cue.

Maybe each thread or post allows X amount of free letters/characters after that it's a nickel a letter and it goes to the forum. Buy a vowel:killingme::killingme:

Meeting hot chicks that are DTF is a lock at garage sales. They are always looking for cheap cues it seems

Well if I carried around an air compressor, I'd be pumping everyone's tires too.

I'll boil it down for everyone:

Since you're not using that cue, give it to me. If you're not actively selling it for peanuts, it's pretty much the same as not having it; so, why not just hand it over already. Isn't a penny on the dollar better than collecting dust? Didn't you hear me? I said "I'm poor." Aren't I courageous and undeniably deserving for declaring so? Why isn't everyone giving me what I want? You're not even using it. This isn't fair. People are starving under the pool table. This isn't fair.

Well, I didn't have much time, so I could be off by 1 or 2 percent, but after an intensive, exhaustive flurry of research, there are 173,652.675 quality cues sitting in a closet collecting dust in this country. Where do I send the bill?

Or, even more to the point:

Use it or lose it, motherf#ckers. What's yours is mine. Gimme free stuff.

For those of you who don't speak Justin. I went to Google translate and put the thread in.

Google Translate Results

"Where are the high dollar cues from yesteryear, that the new owner doesn't know what they are worth, and I can get them for next to nothing, or since they are not on AZ, I could try to cry broke in person."

I'll try to answer seriously although I probably shouldn't. I do have some cues I never use in my closet. Only one anybody would consider a collectors item.

Why don't I sell 'em? Simply because it's too much of a hassle.

(edit) To explain further...If I tried to sell 'em, I might find myself putting up with Justin, or somebody equally as weird. The money simply wouldn't be worth the effort.

I opened up an Ally online savings account about a year ago. I put $1000 in it for a rainy day, and it's been sitting there ever since. I don't even know what I will use it for or if I will even use it.

Just. sitting. there.

One thing I've thought of (for the cues I should get rid of...): Take them to a tournament. Make a deal with the room owner/promoter for a 10% fee for what you sell and sell them as-is, no returns, no refunds, try them out before buying.
