I can not find anything with the search function on this topic, although I feel as though I have read about it here before. So here are my questions.

1. What is the best type and brand of glue to use for tip replacement.

2. Do different type or makes of tips require different types of glue or epoxy?

Thanks for any help or opinions you can offer.

My favorite is Duro Quik Gel. It works. It's readily available at Lowe's, or Ace Hardware, and it's not expensive.

Some of the really cheap Chinese cues use a ferrule material with which I have had problems gluing on tips. For those types of cues I use two part epoxy. For all other cues, and regardless of what kind of tip I'm installing (leather or phenolic), I use Duro Quik Gel and have never had a tip pop off.

Thanks for any help or opinions you can offer.

Hope this helps.

I have often wondered if some of the new fast drying glues are to hard and effect the play. I remember the old Tweeten glue was more rubbery but seemed to soften the hit. Any opinions??

I think the only way to go is DURO -Quick gel make sure you get the gel!!! It super fast drying and holds tighter than a whore holding her crack pipe.:)

LMAO!!!!! I agree also about the glue. As far as the crack I have no idea.
I tried all types of tip glues and super glues and like the duro the best. I have yet to have a problem with it. Chris.

I agree on the Duro Quick Gel......but after facing off the furrule and sanding the back of the tip, wipe both surfaces with a little lacquer thinner before applying the gel to minimize contamination. Most glue failure are a result of pool prep. Also, remember, all of the super glues have a very limited shelf life.

Loctite 454 gel.

I use different glues depending on the ferrule type. Anything porous, I use a 30 minute epoxy. Any plastic, I use a medium viscosity super glue. I've found that the super glue gels work well on just about everything but the epoxy gets a good bite in the fibers of the tip.

I've had great results with the super glue that is flexable. You can purchase it from several sources. I bought it last from Rockler. It isnt as hard as most ca's the flexability helps cusion the tip from popping off. Most tips popping off were on miss cues that Ive seen. My 2 cents....Dave

The best stuff I have personnally used is ZAP A GAP CA+ !! I get it from Mueller. You don't even need any kind of clamping device. Put a couple of drops on the tip or ferrule, put the tip on slide it around a bit to get even coverage, and apply some pressure, and it is set in literally 10 secs or less. You can immediately trim and shape, and play with it. I use tiger tips, and the White diamond tips for breaking. I have put on many others as well ( Le pro, elkmaster, etc) never had a prob.
The key is the CA+. stands for Cyanoacrylate. Any glue that has this will work fantastic! Anyway, a bottle costs around $7 and will last for quite a long time.

Hey since we are talking about re tipping, can I ask what is the best item for trimming the tip flush with the ferrule? I have tried many, and am not real happy with anything. I end up doing a lot of it by hand, and it takes a bit of time to not scrath the ferrule up. I was interested in the porper big shaver, anyone used this before?

I like Hot stuff, you can wipe the excess glue off with a super solvent. It is so convenient. They come in three different viscosity levels.

Some ferrules need to be clamped on a bit longer than others. Some tips seem to absord the glue ...etc.

If I have lots of time, I use Gorilla glue.

Thank you.

Loctite 454 gel.

I do 20+ tips a week and Loctite gel works best for me. Krazy Glue gel and Duro gel would both tie for second.........

If you ask in the Cue Makers forum I sure the majority would agree on Loctite.

Loctite 454 for quick-drying epoxy. Loctite 409 for slow-drying one.

tip glue

i dunno.........GEL super glue.......from ace hardware.........prob is Duro...brand.........???

has GOT to be warm...............like room temp..+

scuff the end of cue ferule with 100 grit or "srape with a blade"

lay 100 grit on a flat surface and scuff back of tip. (rub back and forth)

put on a surgical glove (on yer hand...dooh ) or have super glue remover handy

one drop of glue on furrell, one drop on tip

touch together..with a little pressure/twisting motion......and hold fer a few seconds......

done..........trim/shape .....whatever

Loctite gel here too. I havent had a tip come off since I started using it. But I have had tips pop off over the years with some other glues and epoxies.

I used to use Loctite, but it was the smaller tube. I kept them in the fridge and then used one tube on a few tips and threw it away. I forget the model number. I has 454, too. I am not too fond of it because it tends to get messy after a while if it was not used regularily. I just do not really like the packaging, the gel itself is great!

I like Hotstuff because I can change the nozzle, and use the super solvent to keep everything clean and tidy. There is also a watery kind which is great in filling up tiny gaps. I have not really had any problem with that.

If the tip soaks a lot of glue then I glue the leather, let it sit, then sand it again, apply more glue, and then clamp them together. I do not like to push too hard, the concave center tends to do that if I am not careful. I had a tip came off once, I looked and there was hardly any glue!!! I believe it is because I pressed them too hard and almost all glue was squeezed out.

Just my .0002 cents.
