go green the un plugged lathe

I might be the only cuemaker with a "green lathe". I have a treadle lathe in my shop.

it kinda looks like its made for a 3 legged person.

Very cool.

I saw a video once of a guy using one. Apparently with that big flywheel is isn't as much work as one might think, once it's moving the flywheel effect helps keep it going and gives it the torque you need so it does not bog down too much when the tool hits the work.


Of course, never having run one I have no idea and that was just my impression.

I love antique tools though and those things sure are cool.

That one is a pedal lathe and not a treadle lathe. The three pedals are so you can pedal it from either end of the lathe using two pedals. I use mine strictly for a conversation piece. Mine uses a treadle like an antique sewing machine has.

when i was young kid I worked in a machine shop trailer factory.
riggs built trailers. chandler arizona everything was belt driven.
there was miles of steel shafts and pulleys driving every type
machine.
