Where did you get 1" thick plywood? I thought that was a typo, until I saw the picture and it really does look 1". Any reason you chose that instead of 3/4"? Sucker is going to be heavy!

When I bought my house 20+ years ago, there was an art canvass rack built out of 1" plywood in the garage left behind by the previous owner. I used some of it for shelving and had a bunch left over. I figured I would use what I have especially considering the cost of lumber these days. It's not very heavy at all. The actual motor is heavier that the cabinet.

That's really going to be nice when you finish. Is that a 12" pvc pipe insert to capture the balls?

Made some progress yesterday. I got the lid built (still need to add quarter round) and did the first test run. It seems to work great. Once I get my carpet kit and sprocket, I'll run some balls through it before body work and paint.

Looking great! Are you buying or making the sprocket? How much you estimate it's costing you?

Thanks! I'm buying the Diamond Sprocket and Carpet Pads.

I already had the wood. I'm in it for $350-$400. I understand why Diamond charges $600. It's pretty labor intensive. If I was okay with the aesthetics of the Diamond unit I would have just bought one but I wanted a Gold Crown themed unit which is what led me to build my own.

Thanks. It will look pretty when it's all said and done. Right now it's pretty "rough" looking.

Side note: Glen has been a tremendous help with tech support throughout the build.
Glen is a real gentleman/good guy. He without a doubt enjoys sharing and watching your project move forward. Very creative design on your end. Out side and inside.

Thank you for posting your progress and the complexity of the work! This clarifies for anyone who has a question that there is real value in the "high price" of the Diamond machines! I am amazed that they can sell them as reasonably as they do!
