Mechnic/Player...I thought, or at least all the GC 3's I've worked on, used a threaded insert to hold the pocket castings on with. The pictures of the rails you've shown use the threaded L bracket used on GC 1's & 2's. Just wondering is all.

All my tables were gciii...they had the " L " bracket you talk of.
The up grade to the iv's have the the dowel inserts

The blind rails and the trim pieces on the rails or edge molding tell me its gc3 also. Gc 1-2 used screws to hlod on the edge molding gc3-4 are wedged in instead of being screwed in, the blind rails are wider to hide the pockets or ball returns. Looks like someone modified the pocket holes a little with a file or sander to either make it easier to stretch the cloth side pockets are sharp shelves and the corners are rounded over.

Doing all that work changing the rubber redoing the table the right way you will have a great playing table that should last you a long time.

Nice to see someone take their time on a project looks real nice.

The pictures of the sub-rail extentions I posted here were of a GC3, with the threaded inserts for the pocket castings to mount to, as I've said, I've never seen a GC3 with GC2 pocket casting mounts. The treaded inserts came out on the GC3's...before the GC4's.

You can clearly see the casting mount threaded insert in this picture...on a GC3.

Thanks n10spool, the customer was very happy with his table, it had been in storage for 6-7 yrs.
I have a little break in my deliveries, on my way to Chicago now...just wanted to say nice job Terry, and good of you to post the pictures of your work.

Gold Crown 3

I have work on who knows how many Gold Crowns. Those are GC3 rails, I have seen them come with the L brackets and with the inserts. Most of them come with the inserts. The first time I saw the L brackets I thought the rails were off some other table. Brunswick does not buikd tables in house, they source out the parts to be manufacterd. It looks like they had two differnt manufacters for the rails. I wish they would of used the L brackets on all of the GC 3's. It would of saved me alot of headaches.

Isn't it possible that the change from L brackets to inserts was made at a certain point during the manufacturing run of GCIIIs? It does not really affect the interchangeability of the rails does it?
