I started a GC3 today, thought I would finish it too but ran into the ol' k55 to k66 switcharoo, so now its getting new cushions along with Tournament Green 3030 Tour Edition cloth. I will try to provide pics along the way of my work, all opinions are welcome. Here are the first of many to come over the next two weeks.

btw (exuse my arrogance) what's that on PICT0125.jpg? And why does it look as if made of small wooden bricks?
 
That is the bottom of the pedastel style legs, all of the inserts for the adjustable feet were loose so I took them all out, rotated them and installed a larger screw to insure they dont spin resulting in non adjustable feet.

whoa, I could never imagine it looks like that! :) Since I'm eager to build a table some day, this pic is very useful for me as it tells a lot about the way it is constructed. I was going to build adjustable feet just like these, and now I see it is not obligatory to have them made of single piece of wood. Instead it could be made of several pieces glued together.
 
Being glued up from a lot of little strips like that it is much stronger and more resistant to warping (the important part on a pool table). You will notice that the big frame rails are also glue ups. When you glue them up you reverse the grain in each piece so that the propensity for warpage is counteracted.
 
Here are pics of the before job on the rails, I am going to cut the facings as far back into the pocket as possible,probally even with the back of the featherstrip. I'm trying to eliminate the notch between the facing and the pocket liner as you can see here there's some extra wiggle room in there.

Is that new cloth on the rails? Doesn't look like 3030 mentioned in the initial post.

Mechnic/Player...I thought, or at least all the GC 3's I've worked on, used a threaded insert to hold the pocket castings on with. The pictures of the rails you've shown use the threaded L bracket used on GC 1's & 2's. Just wondering is all.

Well that could be, the customer said it was sold to him as GC3 for $3,000 by a dealer in the Baltimore area, however the same dealer installed the wrong cushions so anything is possible. It does have doweled slate so it just may be a II.
