Gold Crown V

What does everyone think of the soon to come Brunswick Gold Crown 5. I know it is hard to make a judgement based on pictures only, but at this time I am not sure if any of the retail outlets have received them yet.

I have the Title of this thread incorrect and do not know how to edit the Title.

Looks great.
For 8 grand and with cheap cushions?
I dunno.

Looks a little too 70's-ish to me. I'd have to go with a Diamond ProAm or Kim Steel for that kind of money.

Kevin - Go back and try to edit your first post... and you should/(will) be able to modify the title/subject at the same time.

Regards, cd.

Thanks

Done

You have to go into advanced options to edit the Title of a thread. I don't understand why the corrections do not show up on the main page. The correction only shows up when you actually open the thread. Anyone have any info on this?????

Personally, I don't care for the aesthetic changes they made, but of course, I haven't seen it in person yet. Particularly, the new style of corner castings look kinda funky to me since I'm used to the old look.

After 4+ decades of the same basic look of the I-IV, why change now? Are there any features that are supposed to make it any more playable than a IV?

I agree. I have a GC IV, and I love it. I think flush pockets give it cleaner lines. It's a simple classic design, and it's my favorite playing table period. The V looks too busy & cluttered. It looks like it was on an episode of "Pimp My Gold Crown".:D

I LOVED the 70's. I think the ProAms look like barboxes. They play great though. I have never played on a Kim Steel, but I have heared great things about them. That picture of your table looks SWEET.

HAHA! All it needs now is lime green paint, feet that spin when you break, and a couple dozen flat screen TV's in the ball shelf and everywhere else. :p

I love the looks of the GC IV and V... if I were in the market to buy a table I would definitely be purchasing one of these two tables. Aesthetically they're my favorite, and I don't put either one over the other... I wonder if some of the more profitable pool rooms switching to V's will put more IV's on the used market.

Don't get me wrong the V is a great looking table, I just like the IV better.

I don't think so. The IV' are only 11 years old, and they hold up pretty well.

I got mine with the matching light from a poolroom in Bradenton that went belly up. It was 10 months old, and in perfect shape. It took me 2 years to find it. Just be patient, and you will get a deal.

I think they look very sleek. I like the rounded corner caps on the pockets and the slim look. But.....for $8K, I'll stick to my GCI.

Tad more info :

"Without compromising the classic lines, the new Brunswick Gold Crown V features a revamped ball storage box that provides a full front facing for all 16 balls. A new apron extrusion provides a bolder, stronger stance accented by new 45-degree, brushed-nickel corner pocket castings. The Gold Crown V is available in mahogany or matte black with nickel trim. The top-of-the line model, available as an eight-foot pro or nine-foot table, has an MSRP of $8,999. A nine-foot tournament edition is also available featuring tighter pockets engineered to more stringent World Pool-Billiard Association specifications.

“The Brunswick Gold Crown V is a world-class pool table, engineered for those who demand the very best. This table is the professional players' table of choice,” said Groshek. “In addition, a new Gold Crown V Tournament Edition table is going to be made available for home sales so consumers will have the option of playing on the same table as the pros."

i saw one at the BCA trade show that was almost finishedm the pocket castings and rails needed to be fitted etc. they couldnt get the table ready and playable for the show, it will be introduced for play in December-I know this for a fact.

It looks kinda retro, kinda home, not to commercial like the older GC's. it looks better in real life than in the pics, they said that its easier for table mechnics to work on, move etc. I dont know how the pockets are cut(width or depth).

One of my businesses is furnature and this table has a very Chinese looking finish on it , I have noticed on the Chinese furnature I sell the finish on all the Chinese stuff is kinda the same even if the color is different-it must be the spray guns they use or something, the texture of the varnish, stain and wood on all the Chinese furnature that is brown no matter what shade has a certain look and the GC5 has that look. Even from different factorys it all has a similar look. I'm not saying its bad, infact it looks good, the quality is good.

But the cost to manufacture this stuff is cheap over there, I buy furnature from big companys with millions of square feet of wearhouse space and I pay next to nothing for bedroom sets and I know who I'm buying from marks it up alot, If I sell something for $1000 my cost is $300 and I know that their cost is $150. So brunswick is making alot of $$$ on these tables-good for them. It didnt look like a $5000 pool table to me,

It looked good, I'm sure it will play good. I did hear from a reliable source they are going to lengthen the rails on it so the pockets wont be huge when they debuit the table in December, I dont know what the tables for sale will be like, I have been a GC guy since I started playing pool but recently I switched camps and am now a Diamond Table guy, I didnt like them at first but after 6 weeks or so I'm converted now that they have dialed them in from the first ones in the earily 90's.

However because of Brunswicks manufacturing advantage and profit margin, name, and reputation I think the GC5 will be a successful table, their whole line of furnature is Chinese made and they are the distributers they will be just fine, they also standaradized all their packaging of all their products for home use to look old school. They have done their home work and will make $$$. But Diamond will be the standard of the players moving foward. Mark my word on that.
