Gold Crown rails, real wood option?

Thank you. The other night, one of the oldtimers told me that original Gold Crowns came with real wooden rails, but poolhalls preferred the formica laminates because players used the rails as an ashtrays and leave burn marks. As proof he pointed out that the skirt and panels are still wood.

They might have been remembering the anniversaries and or centennials, both had real wood rails.
