gold crown vs other brunswick tables

I'm buying my first table with my father. Upon trying to find some posts on what are the best tables, many mentioned either gold crown or diamond. We initially were looking at olhausen after watching an episode of "how it's made", and my father wants a fancy wood table, and gold crown isn't fancy enough. So wondering if brunswick fancy - furniture style tables play as well as gold crown, and if not why, and if brunswick fancy will be better than olhausen fancy. Many thanks

I have an Olhausen table and it is OK for what it is. I don't think you will find a Brunswick furniture style table that plays like a Gold Crown. If I were doing it again, and purchasing a furniture style table my choice would be something made by the A. E. Schmidt Company here in St. Louis... Been around almost as long as Brunswick and American made.

Diamond also sells furniture style tables. In my opinion, all furniture tables are just too light and move to easily when leaned on. If that style of table is what your father is set on, then I would just make sure the slate is at least 1" thick and it had Artemis K66 rubber on the rails. This would play similar to a gold crown.

Good luck!

I like gc better than diamonds. I've never played on any furniture table that played anywhere near as good as a gc. Don't ask me why, I don't know.

Gold Crown or Diamond would be my choice. I want a table that plays well.
Let the wife pick a out a fancy table for the dining room, but not a pool table.

GC or Diamond will retain decent resale value, unlike a furniture style table.

Yes sir. My gold crown is old, the wood needs to be refinished, and as a piece of decor, lets just say its lacking.....but its in the top 5 best tables I've played on....and all of the top 5 were Diamonds or Gold Crowns.

A logical option to a Brunswick table would be either the Anniversary or Centennial table. They are both antique tables, but, afford art deco designs. Be prepared to spend a little for a nice one though. They are great tables that will hold their value over the years.

For a great playing table, buy a Diamond Pro with the new specs. They are pricey but are preferred by most. I only say this because the pool hall I frequent has 10 Diamond Pros and two GC3's. It is rare that one of the Gold Crowns sees any action, even on a Friday or Saturday night. They are every bit as nice and good condition as the Diamonds are and both have been refelted in the last 5 mos.

With the used market being what it is your best bang for the buck may be an anniversary.....

Plays like the gold crown but has way better aesthetics.....

Would kill for a Centennial and it's about 2-3x more expensive than the anniversary even in this soft market....

Currently I have a 9ft Moderne in the man cave that I have to restore....

Not mine but same table design

All 3 of these have the heavy frame and are thru the slate rails.... And play excellent just like a GC when setup properly....

Olhausen also does custom tables.. A friend of mine has a one of a kind that has a massive frame and wider rails and it plays right.. Not like furniture... You might want to call them and tell them you want something that plays like a diamond but looks good.. Ned said they called his the Bellagio....

But that fact benefits them, if they buy used...

Depends upon your budget. Diamond's are fantastic, but really cost.

Try Craigslist for your area regarding a Brunswick Anniversary.

Stop in to local pool halls. You might get some leads on some great used tables. Maybe even something elaborate from the 1920's or 30's.

Diamond Paragon.pngDiamond Paragon is a furniture table that plays exactly like a commercial Diamond.

In terms of playability, what makes a Gold Crown different from the other offerings from Brunswick? Is it the cloth, the rails, or the pockets?
