Golden Fleece rumor

I heard the Golden Fleece is replacing their 9’ tables with bar boxes. There goes the neighborhood.
Last time I was there, they turned out the lights on the pool tables upstairs when the DJ started up around 9 or 10PM.

US might as well stop showing up at major pro events .... getting more and more irrelevant since all we can muster the gumption for are bar box ....

i guess it just takes to much energy to walk the extra couple feet around the table ... soon some american will invent a conveyor belt to move us around the table ... walking is just to much troub
Well..., I dont think your wrong, but I would say that all of the top players in the USA have access to whatever equipment thet want to play on and many of them dont work or have flexible schedules, so is it the table size that limits the number of top talent or could it be effort and discipline?
Yep, get 'em started on a 'training wheels' 9ft with bigass comfort pockets. Then if they like it they can ease on over to snugger wickets. I've talked to Magoo's owner but he's not a pool guy its just a business he bought. They do keep the tables in good shape but the beautiful GC4's they have are unplayable for virtually anybody but a 625-650+FR. They just don't get it and have zero desire to set the tables up right.
Why don’t they go to 3 inch pockets the balls are 2.25 that would give them .5 inch margin for error. I think 4.5 inch pockets are fine but I don’t get the fascination with tighter pockets. If someone thinks they are gonna compete with the pros because they play on tighter pockets that’s silly in my opinion there is so much more to this game then making tough shots. Safety play, the mental game, visual aspects of the shot planning, all of these are very important. Stop it with the tight pocket bs. JMHO

going to my playing all my life on a 9 or 10 foot table.

and playing on a 7 foot table is like a major league baseball player going to play in the little league field.
and about 90% of pool players, at least in the US, don't give a shit about ever being a 'major leaguer'. look, i like 9ft tables too but i just don't get the constant knocking of bb's. Don't like 'em, don't play. I do know there is WAAAAY more $$ to be made on them.

to me its like what if golf went from big courses to small pitch and putt ones. so what if all the money went to them with the new people playing.
i can still morn the loss of something i hold dear. and 7 foot tables isnt the pool game i know or like.
and no way i would play on them unless there was some big payoff.

it isnt fun for me or for many others in the pool room i frequent. its half and half on the tables and in the afternoons only the 9 foot tables are played on. which are all the better players in town.

later when league players and younger players come in then it reverses. and absolutely none can beat any or just a few of the day players. so i understand the change with the new generation.

share? might make me feel better..tho I guess I should've seen it coming when I asked dave a few months ago "when's the best time to come in and get a 1p game?"
he paused for a moment to think, then replied, "any day..any time..except friday" (cos that's dj dance etc. night..)
Soon after I landed at BFI I drove to Everett. When I walked into the Golden Fleece there was one guy practicing so I asked him to play some cheap 1P. Somehow I played pretty well that day and won our little match up.

About 3 years after that I walked into Black Diamond in Spokane. Some idiot on a bar box started woofing at me, I just ignored him. The old timer that he was playing came over to the Frankenstein 9’ Diamond that I was practicing on and started talking to me. I told him I was looking for 1P action, he said not many players around here played the game.

While we were talking some guy walked in and the old timer said he plays some and yelled over to the guy come over. The old timer told him I was looking for 1P action. The looked at me and said “I know you, your the pilot”. How do you know me? I watched you dismantle one of the best players in Seattle. I laughed and said “ he couldn’t be one of the best players in Seattle if I beat him”.

There’s my story, hopefully I didn’t bore you.

jim you couldn't bore me, you're the pilot!😋
seriously, fun story, and one I fear might occur less frequently as time goes by
especially as bar boxes displace big tables more and more
but pool has room for all kinds, I think..
as long as we show up in the way we really want to, there will be a place for us all..somewhere

I'm just ok, but if anybody ever wants to play around seattle, 1p, big table, whatever..
let me know, and we'll find a place

interesting..last hurrah? or will tony be teaching on bbs?😝🤦‍♂️

other than being a top player what qualifications does he have for teaching?

plus his specialty is one pocket and not many in the seattle area play much of it.

prices seem high for a non instructor. and my guess it will be sparsely attended or cancelled for lack of interest.
just a wild guess.

Here's my take on the table size thang. I'm a 9' player, bottom line. Why is this the case given that I'm no world beater? It is because part of the fun of the game has been the perpetual quest of comparing my performance to the best players out there...those would be the pros and they play on 9 footers 90% of the time I would guess. I have also come to love letting out my stroke and that's not what bar table pool emphasize. I can't disparage anyone from playing on bar tables, but they do not captivate my attention nor do they motivate me like 9 foot pool. My best bar table performance to date was years ago when I broke and ran a 4 pack of 8 ball on a 7 foot diamond. Now, don't get me wrong, that felt great. But what felt better was the few times I ran 50+ on my nice, snug 9 foot diamond (side note...really wish 14.1 was a game ANYONE was interested in...no reason to play that one either).

Don't think I'm all high falutin' about my opinions on this...pool should be played for whatever reason one wishes. But for this guy, it is clearly more enjoyable on the big track.

I would say it is more like 98%. Although I do not really enjoy watching pros play on the bar box, the bar box remains very important for the casual pool player. Most people play pool entirely to have fun, and those who enjoy the bar box, regardless of playing skills, should continue to enjoy it.

I'd say watch this match, on a disgusting valley bar box, and tell me this isn't some of the best 8 ball pool you've ever seen in your life ;)

Tony’s FargoRate is 776. He didn’t get that playing 1P so I’d say he has plenty to offer.

you pilot people around in their private planes. does that make you qualified to instruct low timed pilots for high priced lessons
better than a qualified instructor who does it for a living.?

My ATP Type ratings allows me to give lessons in the aircraft I’m rated in, even though I’m not a certified instructor. I have trained low time pilots in specific aircraft, that includes Hawker, Lear-Jet, Beechjet, and Sabreliners. There’s plenty of certified instructors that don’t know $hit.
