Golf is going to be in 2016 summer Olympics

I don't disagree on any of these points. But the winter games' mandate is to feature sports that are "practiced on snow and ice". Heck, basketball (NBA) is a winter sport but it is in the summer games. Of course, hockey, which like the NBA also plays it's professional season in the winter, is in the winter games.

Your right about that, there are certainly limitless things that could be technically played in any season. If there's no room for a cue sport in the summer then an exception should be made I guess

While it seems quite away off, at least cue sports is on the Olympic radar (even if it is out over the horizon). It is a recognized sport by the IOC and has been included in the World Games. But there are certainly a lot of sports trying to get in and I dare say some of them are more organized and have more resources behind them.

I'm biased but think there are a lot of good reasons to include pool. As I mentioned earlier, it is relatively cheap and simple to put on, organize, secure, run and even televise the events. Perhaps most significant is it would bring some countries and peoples into the Olympic fray that aren't right now (the PI for example). Plus the powerhouse countries with influence, like the USA, Euro nations, and China, are fairly strong in the sport and stand to garner medals, so one would think they would be on board to the idea.

Perhaps one other hope would be that the IOC redefines the winter games more broadly to include sports practiced in winter (rather than on ice and snow). The way it is currently defined is restrictive and would seem to pose a problem for the IOC in trying to grow the winter games. The 2104 winter games had 7 sports/15 disciplines/98 events. Compare that to the 2016 summer games: 28 sports/41 disciplines/306 events. The winter games are the poor stepchild. They're more or less out of sports to add short of maybe tractor pulls with snowmobiles. As the popularity of the X games grew the IOC very quickly added snowboarding, trick snow boarding and skiing, moguls, etc. because they needed sports to add.

Bingo, just had a brainstorm! I propose replacing the slate with 4 1/2 X 9 sheet of ice and refrigerate the damn table! ;)

Ping Pong is a Olympic sport. Let's set up pool tables with the ping pong tables on top. Kill 2 birds with one stone. No need for a second venue. Lol. F'ing Ping Pong, I think that's slang for table tennis, lol. Yes I know they play awesome.

Ok, let's have our pool players play doubles and the non shooter can blow the ball into the hole. Curling is ridiculous, now shuffleboard drunk should be a sport.

Well you certainly entitled to your flawed view of what a sport is or isn't but its obvious which sport / game the Olympic committee considers one .
Don't fret Pool might stumble into some fill in time sooner or later to give viewers something to help them wind down after long days of real sports action

It's sad that we all love pool but and feel like we have to protect our own. We should assume positive discussion, not negative. I am guilty and have become jaded and it makes me regret what I've become. Lol sorta, I'm not losing sleep.

People on a forum will get negative when ever they have an opportunity (or when they think is a good reason to). If you are a sensitive guy like me, then you need to be really careful about what you say or talk about on a forum. But most pool players are safe, because most of them are very tough (mentally), and not sensitive in the least.

Pool is a sport, as defined by the IOC at any rate, and that's all that counts as far as it being potentially in the Olympics.

But it won't. The only scenario I could see is if the summer games ever went to the PI, like say Manila. The host country I believe is allowed to name an exhibition sport or two and they just might conceivably choose pool.

Other than that I don't see it happening. The summer games are so huge there is a moratorium on considering adding any new sports and even as slots do become available I'm afraid pool is a way down the list of potentials. Too bad because it could bring in new blood - countries that aren't really competitive in any of the summer games events.

It will never happen, I think because pool is not the least bit athletic. The olympics is for athletic types of sports.

Pool is a sport and European countries believe so. Only U.S have doubt about it. I think that is kinda sad.

Well so just over 40% believe so curling rolls in at almost 80%
