GOMEZ vs PEACH part 2 ?

I have every faith in Daryl's ability to compete at top level. He is (in his own words) no 'spring chicken' but has nearly 20 years of ringcraft behind him. With the added confidence the title gifts him he should be no One Hit Wonder. But a Gomez matchup may not be the answer to either player's aspirations.

Daryl has never seriously gambled preferring to hone his skills in the tournament environment. I loved watching all the matchups at One Side but that is not Daryl's natural habitat.

Sure he could play challenge matches but he should not take them on a No Win No Pay basis. He has earned the right to be given that respect.

Pool will never be a serious sport while it is played for Mickey Mouse money. The World Championship title carries responsibilities with it and a professional approach by the Champion can help to advance the profile of the game.

While I appreciate the reverence that you Brits give to the WPC Title and while I agree with you that it is nice to see a Champion work to advance the profile of the game. Daryl has proved himself a champion besting the world's best, at that period in time.

DARYL PEACH IS THE WORLD 9 BALL CHAMPION.

That being said, your comment about gambling not being Daryl's natural habitat, I would be very hesitant to put my money on him besting Gomez in a gambling match of serious consequence. I would be far more inclined to bet on Gomez because of this natural talent, youth and experience in gambling. Daryl has great skills in many areas but his strongest suit is his tenacity and composure under tournament fire. Gambling is another animal altogether.

What makes me smile right now, though is what people say about gambling (including myself) and that is that gambling enhances your ability to play well. I still believe this but it is not a complete truth. Some people simply play better in tournaments while others gamble better than they play in tournaments.

why try to seperate gambling from pool? nobody got into pool because it was pristine and refined, as Jeanette Lee once said. Pool doesnt have to be sanitized for it to become a major sports attraction just like poker. If you want refined there's always snooker. Gawk!

If there were a rematch, I would not bet against Gomez.

Without the pressure of the WPC tournament squarely on his shoulders, his talent will come to the top and he will be the victor over PEACH who is a true champion. Gomez simply has more natural talent, IMHO. But natural talent doesn't always make a winner.

Not all of them. Souquet didn't take anybody on. Neither did Hohmann. I guess they have their opinion on gambling, and I bet that it is not very positive.

I didn't really want to talk to Roberto after the match. He was so glum it worried me. I'm sure he would come to Derby City if he can get a Visa. Money games are his forte. I have no doubt we'll see a good filipino contingent again this year. Derby City, along with the U.S. Open are considered the most important events in the USA.

my sentiments exactly. i saw him make that comment in the replay show and i thought he sounded a bit too overconfident (of course, by then i knew he would lose). meanwhile, darryl, who i thought would be all high and mighty, was in fact, very reserved and soft-spoken, at least in the taped interview they showed before the replay of the match.

im sure they would have that kind of tournament soon...there's a lot of interest in the sport again, almost like in 1999 when bata won. there are new tournaments left and right! imagine what would've happened had gomez won...
