Hi folks,

We're buying a new house and have a 20' x ~13'2" space in the basement that going to get a pool table. Given the size, this probably means a 7' table. What do you guys like for a 7 footer given that it has to be taken down to the basement for installation? I'd love a diamond bar box of some type, but I think they come assembled and the website says they're for main level installation only. Is this really the case? What are some good alternatives if I need a table with 3-piece slate? I don't want a POS "furniture" table if I can avoid it.

My question is, what do you guys like for a 7 footer given that it has to be in the basement. The Diamond 7ft is available with a 3 piece 1" slate, and the entire frame disassembles, so it can be installed anywhere any other table can be installed, and Diamond's 7ft ProAm is second to none in that size.

Awesome, that's what I was hoping to hear  I've played quite a bit on the ProAm's at a pool hall I used to frequent and I really liked them.

Glen,,,,,,,

Hi,,,,,,,,

i've been following Glen , A.K.A. ''Real king Cobra'''s' posts for a long time,, I'de do what he suggests,, his knowledge of pool tables is second to none ,,,this guy must've been born with a tool box and a set of shims in his hands !!

Good luck,, I have a 6' ''Olhausen '' up in my loft as thats the only size that will fit,, Great table, I think it's called ''The Oppenheimer'' 1 piece slate,,traditional looks, I wish I had the room for my 9' ''Loria'',, that I have in my storage area, but,,,,,,,??

Anyway,,, best of luck with the Diamond,,,and kudos to Glen,,!!

When you call up Diamond, talk to either Aaron or Brian....make sure you tell them "Glen" said it can be done, because they're fast to sell you a one piece...but slow in the conversation when it comes to 3 piece:D:D:D

The 7 ft Diamond is definitely the one to get. I take that back you only wanted a good table. :rotflmao1:

If your basement has some Bilko doors you could probably get a 1 piece down.

I also would recommend the pro/am, it's a great table.

If your stairs are a straight shot, you can probably do the 1 piece slate. I have a walkout basement but the guy helping me move the slate on mine was struggling, so we tried to shorten the slate carrying experience and went right through the garage and down the stairs. Don't mistake it for a piece of valley bar box slate, you will need some muscle.

I'm going to recommend a wider room.
Your length, at 20 ft. is fine, it's the width, 13'-2".
You ain't gonna like it.

I've talked to the folks at Diamond and it looks like I'll be getting a 3-piece pro-am. Thanks for the advice and help everyone. Unfortunately, the way the stairs are I don't think there's any way we could get a 1 piece down there.

Here's a rough diagram of the layout. The space estimates were off the top of my head before, especially the width. Basically, I'm going to knock out the wall below the stars and move the wall back ~ 14-16 inches (or maybe even more). It should like something like the second picture, without the shelves. It won't be the prettiest, but It should give enough extra room to swing cues back along the full side length of the table. At most, there will be one little corner where we'll need a small cue, but I'll guess we'll just have to live with it :D

Let me see what's at the bottom of the steps, as well as what the area around the top of the steps looks like;)

I have a 19'6" x 13'6" room that has my 9' Gold Crown in it...not tight at all.

4'6" of table width, plus 58" of cue if you're on the rail puts you at 14'2" minimum to get a level cue rail shot on both sides of the table. And that's not even taking into consideration your backstroke. Are you suuuuuuure it's not tight at all?

Not if you're shooting with a billiard cue;)

Definitely talk to Brian at Diamond when you call! He is great to work with. He'll do whatever he can to help you out.

I've got exactly 13' and I solved the problem with a couple of 52" cues (one for each side) for those straight across the table rail shots. They rarely get used. I don't know how a 9' would ever work, seems I'd be using the shorties all the time

I wish I could. We don't close until June 1 and we can't go back to the place until just before then unfortunately. I just want to hit the ground running :D
