Good News For Mechanics, Calling Cobra

lccs, you are misunderstanding me. we do not do tables for this co. but we
have reputable dealers that we install for. Here is a question guy says i have 8ft olhausen drakes to install, within 50 mile radius i will guarantee you four tables a day, every day how much do you charge to pup and install. cust suppl cloth??
I agree with the $350.00 as in all labor to a certain extent. First off, the tables you deliver from local dealers are...local, meaning that if you happen to run into something that warrants extra charges, you'd have a much easier time collecting for that extra charge. Now, someone wanting to just simply drop ship tables to you in the BLIND to set up, that's a different story. I don't know anyone that just charges a flat rate for a job that overlooks say maybe...2 or 3 more hours to get the job done because of unforeseen obstacles. When its a flat rate $350.00 labor, there's still only so many hours of labor allowed to that rate, anything extra should be charged accordingly...not inclueded just to get the work, that's being steped on and taken advantage of, and every customer I have ever had an additional charge added to the bill on, understood the extra, and paid accordingly. So, my concerns are...a company that has a policy that simply says...$350.00 and NO extra, reguardless of what ever...like it or leave it...can leave it at someone elses door step as far as I'm concerned. If they'd at least agree to pay the extra AFTER the fact, with justifible proof of the extra charges...BEFORE the next delivery, then I'd be more interested. Using your example, lets say the delivery request was for 150 miles from you, because they couldn't find anyone local to do that delivery....are you still going for $350.00? What if they still told you $350.00 and not a penny more? I understand backyard work, that's gravy...but?????

Glen

Totally agree glen! we really stay local no exceptions because there is plenty of work why drive when its in your backyard. I dont want anyone calling me back for service 150 miles away. but some of these tables do end up literally in our backyard. costco is selling brunswicks and a.heritage online. we get 350.-400. I personally rather having the table in my shop.
table gets inspected, rails covered and no suprises the next day.I had to laugh at your install from hell, We had acall from a cust to repair and the installer ran them right thru the cabinet into air. We repaired but i couldnt make a living or want to working on junk. Glen, you do have the privalige of working on the finest made table out there, but not enough work to keep all of us others busy. we have to pick and choose carefully and also price reasonably to keep us busy! We do like gravy!!!

by the way glen, i also have been married twenty years, what does getting some mean!
LOL

Diamond and I have gone a few rounds over this very subject...LOL I can remember one time I was delivering a 9ft Professional to a guys house in Texas, besides the delivery charge, the setup was $345.00, because that's what the charge is back in Indiana. I was looking up and down the street at night for the guys house, as I couldn't see the street addresses very well. I passed by a house that the stairs started at the street level, and thought to myself...I hope to god it's not that house...LOL...well, it WAS! 37 steps from the street to the upstairs room, where the table was going, which included an oak spiral stair case, packing 256lb slates that could not be set down on the oak stairs!!! AND, the spiral stair case was to skinny to carry the slates flat!!! I was sooooo hot, I swear...LOL I hurt for days after that one...LOL But, now we have it worked out for making sure that I know what I'm getting into BEFORE I get to the location, and it's chaged for accordingly now.

I got a call today .... He said that he was starting a internet buisness and would be selling Thomas Aaron pool tables. He is looking for people all over the world to set up cloth and install tables into homes.

Got a similar type call about a year ago (not aaron tables) to setup imported tables sold via the web.
They wanted us to pickup the tables at O'Hare airport, deliver in the Chicago area and setup - all for $325.
I asked what kind of drugs they were using.

install

Hey Rick, I thought it was bad enough to have it drop shipped. Man, it appears they did not get enough installers for that, so they added 25.00 and they will drop it on your step. LOL what a deal.
Catchya later
Ron

Does anyone know how this guy is calling people directly?
He's called my business line and my cell phone to leave messages while we were doing tables.
I'm not interested in a flat rate, but thought it was interesting that they allow no internet sales. How then are they having a difficulty in having their dealers receive, setup, etc. with these tables?
My guess is that someone with a clue is reading AZ, how else could all of us have been reached in such a short time. If that is the case, I would hope they pipe up one of these days, it would be faster than the way they are going about it.
Doesn't seem to be much support anyway, but hey, someone could be bored someday......lol

table worl

Cuephoric. He told me that he found me on usedpooltables.com When i told him that i never been on there, he told me he must have got it through one of my vendors. I think he probably got it on here. I would not doubt it if he is reading all of this. That is fine by me, because he will know how we all feel.
Thanks, Ron

Scruffy1, You mean to tell me, you are willing to deliver, cloth and set up a table for 350.00. If so, you got the number. Give the guy a call. And if you are tearing down tables and setting them up and recovering them for 375.00, more power to you. All i am saying is, i would not touch these tables for that price. I think Glen did the math on the table that was messed up and came out short. I would not even think of doing this for 350.00. What area are you in?
Thanks, Ron
I have been sitting back watching this thread grow. I sorta understand your side. Now I look at what I do everyday and a say $350 + $350 = A nice days pay. I work some typical Brick and mortar stores and get paid$300 to insall a table. I Know after the Install I will then d0 a Table move for$450.00 to bring the numbers up. Some of the internet companies want us to work at $250. I laugh at them. But you know what..They found installers to do the work. That is the problem we have. Cheap unskilled, uninsured hacks will work for less and these companies will use them. But getting back to the point in hand I would have no problem delivering, seting up &haul trash out for $350 a table. Would do it all day long. just do 2 a day and you are making money. I work throughout New Jersey and put 200 to 250 miles a day on my van chasing work. The work is out there you just need to know you have to hustle to getit.

That was well said, Pat. I had a table co. call me and offer $225.00 for a install. Oh!! now I know I'm a rookie in the business, but I do "GREAT" work. I asked the guy if he was a "pimp".....LOL

Are there any mechanics on this forum that physically work 40 hours a week delivering tables, moving, recovering tables for a billiard company?
I am curious what is the going hourly rate.I mean guaranteed 52 weeks, show up every day. i did this for a company for a long time. a
lot of us seem to have there own business but are there any good mechanics working for somebody?

I was working for a company in Sacramento for $14 an hour and started out getting 50-70 hours a week. Last I knew, his guys were down to 8-10 an hour and doing about 6 tables a month. When I talked to the owner yesterday, he said they have just sold their third table this year. Personally, I'd rather work 100-120 hours a week hustling up the jobs and getting things done, than sit around waiting for a paycheck every two weeks that is less than I made on Saturday.
I'm sure there are alot of guys who agree with this thought, or we'd all be working for someone else.
$10 an hour seems to be the current standard in our area these days though.
Not quite worth the body damage at that rate when you're constantly rotating through guys that can't keep around long enough to hand you tools...........

He called me too. I told him to start a thread here on AZ and lay it all out for all of use to read the fine print, as he'd learn a lot about this business that way. I see he hasn't done that yet...LOL, but he did say he learned a lot from me, and he's going to go back and redo his web site to include a questionnaire about the delivery and install, which will include extra charges on their credit card for any extra work involved...hmmm, wonder if he'll listen.

What ever happened with this guy does anyone work for him now are just the $10.00 an hour guy??

In my area I could only find one table mechanic. He charges $300 for garage to basement and installation. $30 extra to come to my suburb outside of Edmonton, AB.

Hopefully he sets up my Diamond Pro properly.

He called me also, gave me the same run around, I told him the area I would cover. Thomas Aaron tables aint bad at all, If i have to travel 30 miles to delivery one then 70 miles the next time the 30 makes up for the 70 miles. I dont think he has gotten any sales AT ALL his prices are way too high on that site. Plus if I was TA dealer I would be so pissed that they are selling tables online, cannibalism!
