Good or bad hit?

it just seems not right to me to have a shot you cannot see if it a good hit or not and allow it to be shot. and then call a foul not because you saw it but because your interpretation of how the other balls reacted means it was a bad hit.

if going to try and do that then it is mandatory to explain and agree upon that way of deciding before the shot not after.
If you're on good terms and probably also in a friendly situation, you can discuss the parameters involved and go from there.

Agreed, it should be discussed beforehand; however, I'm sure we can all agree that not everyone has the same knowledge and therefore - people shoot without discussing the shot first. In this situation, I wouldn't have said anything to the shooter because I would've thought it was simple - if the 8 moves it's a bad hit.

and then he says i used left hand english so the ball went to the right and kicked the other ball to the left.

now the the argument starts.

Also added a lot of draw with that left hand English...helped the 8 or 2 move uptable even quicker and kept the cue from going towards the bottom rail....I'm still quitting umping...

good, you guys are right it wasnt a good hit. but that does not mean you are going to get to call a foul on a guy in a pool room.

that is the point. playing for money the guy is going to tell you then you should have said something before the shot. and if you insist on calling that, i am quitting you .
