Good players who do not look very good, while at the pool table, but still consistently run out.

mohammed soufi has an amateur looking sidewinder stroke, but you don't have much time to ponder about it because within a minute he's run the rack

I’ve posted this before: this reminds me of the many baseball hitting stances. Gary Sheffield's rocking and bat wagging… so much movement but at contact it all came together. Some people can put all the movement, along with lifting the lead foot, stepping into the swing and timing like Ricky Henderson because they are so gifted athletically and or have incredible hand eye coordination. Coaches would never teach these player’s stances because there is way too much going on for most people to put it all together but they will always use their contact point body position for examples. A more modern coached stance especially for youngsters is “Squash the Bug.” It takes most of the unnecessary body movement out of the stance for an efficient swing and it’s easier to teach. You’ll even see some MLB players use this efficient technique but most great major league batters are great because the know how to get to their contact point & body position regardless of everything else… that’s why they are great. Almost none look the same because of body type, incredible hand eye coordination, and because they are gifted athletes they get away with inefficiencies that us regular people would not.

Pool is no different… from Keith to Fedor and everyone in between.

Sorry, it is not really that. It is much more just a player with an ugly stroke, and horrible form. Basically a player who you might think sucks, up until he starts running out in you, lol.
I think you are talking about two things at the same time. Your title implies poor mechanics but then you discuss "boring" strokes. I don't see them being the same thing. I don't assume a guy sucks because his mechanics are simple. It's often the other way around!

I would add former snooker pro Dave Harold. Highest world ranking 11 and was many years near or in top16. Also won one ranking event in the 90s. Very unusual lack of practice strokes and a very short final/only backswing.

i mostly remember him missing WC qualies because the police broke his arm after a bar fight

Look at Johnny Archer, from the 90's. His mechanics, and stroke, bridge hands, and everything. Then look at the average Bar room banger. That is what I am talking about. When a guy looks like a Banger, but then plays really good, and runs 3 racks on you, that is what surprises me.

Nice long shot to the corner and the blocked one with the bridge. Shoots well. Doesn't look awkward in the least.

Wow, are his strokes so short, that they can't even be noticed? That is amazing. I am really impressed, lol.

Like Moe Norman in golf. Those inches before and after contact are what matter most
His golf swing is so simple I think a lot of amateur golfers would be greatly helped if we learned it. Pros don’t use it because it doesn’t give them the distance they need these days. Plus they have the time and ability to have the extra movements in their swing that generates power..but for the rest of us it would help greatly.

Sorry I read this and so many people shit on moe when he pops up in conversations but his swing was perfect.

In amateur golf or pool to me simply is better. Lol

Ismael paez had an ugly technique but he was a champion. I have played guys that were fat, chain smoking ready to pass out zombies with ugly unrefined technique that had patience and a deliberate approach to the game that would run out at will albeit slowly and leave me wondering what just happened.
