Best in a small town

break and run 6 out of 10 8 ball bar box .

A good player is someone who can beat the 9 ball ghost on a table with no bigger than 4 1/2" pockets, 9 doesn't count on the break and no combinations on it.

While how many racks someone can run or their 14.1 high run might be interesting skill on a pool table is measured in wins and losses. Some people seem to always get there, some seem to always fall short. Good pool players find a way to win.

As someone who often staked players, I consider a good player one that after they have reached a certain level of competency they can be depended on to preform. I used to run around with a guy who always said the same thing. "It doesn't matter who he is or how he plays, if he wants to beat you make him have to play his best to do it". Even against a champion, good players don't roll over, they may not win but they will force that champion to have to play like a champion to win.

I can even take this down to players who by most standards were just average but are very tough to beat. You give them a little too much weight and they will take you down. Their speed may not be high but they can play their speed when it counts.

I don't really consider a player who can't preform when it counts, no matter what his apparent speed, a good player no matter how well they may play in practice.
I am not just talking about gambling, tournament play, league play where you are called on to preform at your speed. It doesn't matter how well you play in your basement practicing, if you can't do it when it counts, it's meaningless.

Your list reminds me of some professional players I knew back in the 1980's. :thumbup:

Oh...they could play, but they were hustlers too. :smile:
