I was told prior to use Gorilla Glue to attach a Samsara Break/Jump tip to a phenolic ferrule. So, should I use regular Gorilla Glue or the Gorilla Super Glue or some other sort of Gorilla glue? Or is there a different glue you would suggest for this tip and ferrule so I don't lose my 3rd Samsara tip? lol.

Also, any secrets to putting the Samsara tips on that I should know about?

they probably mean gorilla super glue, I use locktight 454 gel and have never had a tip pop off. I did use a new bottle of gorilla glue the other day to put on a tip as I was out of locktite, and it popped off within a few days. that 24hr golf club head glue is the nuts also except you gotta let it sit overnight.

I put a samsara j/b tip on phenolic ferrule the other week, I used loctite 454 and I have not had any problems. Just make sure to scuff ferrule and tip before glue.I tried gorilla glue years ago and it foamed up and I didn't like that .Anyone else have that happen ?? <<ED

thats how gorilla glue works, when contacted by moisture it expands alot...which is why is that would be about the worst glue to ever use if you were installing a pin...the wood would split from so much expansion.

I've always used good ol super glue and have yet to ever loose a tip.

The new Gorilla glue does not expand as much as the older one. Maybe 1/5th as much.
The newer white Gorilla glue, dries fast. You can put them on tips then trim in about 10 minutes. Just as fast as Barge glue but stronger imo.
The Gorilla toughened super glue is very good.
Coat the bottom of the tip with real thin CA and gently sand with 220 grit ( just to scratch it, Dennis Searing style ).

Actually, I don't think the glue would expand enough to split the wood. It only expand enough to fill the bottom of the hole if there were any voids. I've never used it for a pin or an A joint, but I know of some who have.

The only issue I see with using it for a pin is that it does not break down from heat like Epoxy does. Good luck getting the pin out if it gets bent or you don't get it in perfectly straight.

good point tony, I did not know that it didn't respond to heat and thats some good info to know. I guess as long as the relief was good enough no splitting would occur, but as stated the new formula doesn't expand as much as the old, I seen the hydraulic pressure bust the joint using gorilla glue but that was some 5yrs ago and probably the old stuff i guess.

thanks for the tip,

Hi,

I have been using G5 epoxy for ferrules and phenolic ferrules for 7 years with no problem. Because it is a 2 part epoxy, I tell the customer not to play with the cue for 12 hours.

I like super glue gel for all tips. I can cut the tip and shape after 40 seconds and customers can play with tip right away

1: PM samsara first and ask them, don't waste our time with silly questions. GO TO THE SOURCE.....

2: Experiment second like all great minds of the past have done, ACCEPT FAILURE AS PART OF THE LEARNING CURVE.

3: Make sure you always have a lot of banannas in the shop as those Gorillas are always hungry.

4: DON'T QUIT YOUR REAL JOB to make/repair cues as you only seem to have a slight chance of success and I don't want your babies to starve to death.

Good luck and call me at 734-428-1161 if you feel like *****ing at me....I can take it and we both might even learn something. :groucho:

LOL. Don't worry, I'm not quitting any jobs to do repair. Hell, I don't even do my own. I just get the info for the person that does and let him deal with it all from there.
