Got Balls?

JB Cases

Here is a case we did for one of AZ's high rollers. He wanted a few extra custom features so we did our best to make it happen.

He wanted to carry a cue ball. Now, normally this means making a higher front pocket and he was ok with that. But we also didn't want to have the pocket be too high. I proposed that we try to put it in the lid. Kirk was down with that and so we devised a custom, tapered cavity that allows the ball to be held snugly in the lid but be easy to remove with slight pressure from the fingers.

But the main thing he wanted was a way to carry his Cue Reach extension. Originally he asked for a way to clip it or attach it to the side of the case. Or a longer lower pocket to put it in. Now I am a big hater when it comes to crap dangling or strapped to cases. I like to find ways to put everything that needs to be carried INSIDE the case as I think that is the purpose of a case.

So what I devised was a modification to the interior that allowed for the Cue Reach to go in and stop at 18". Then the break cue goes in a sleeve and down through the Cue Reach to sit comfortably in the case. An efficient use of space that keeps all the tools nice and safe inside the case.

And this is what Kirk had to say when he FINALLY got his case after having to jump through too many hoops to get it.

"Thanks Karen! I received the case yesterday! The case is awesome! Tell John that he is a very, very bad man......."

Thanks for the business and the patience Kirk! We appreciate the opportunity to make you a custom case that fits your needs!

Best,

John and Karen

I like the idea.

My only concern would be that if the case was dropped on the lid, forcing the cues towards the cue ball, would there be a chance of damaging the cues?

I'm sure a simple solution would be to just put a piece of fabric between the cues and the ball.

Just curious on your thoughts John.

Anyways, congrats on being an innovator! Your work is top notch.

John is work out of the box, bringing new ideas to market, not just doing the same o same o again.

While I will admit that John's cases have some innovative features, I find it funny that he doesn't like Jack Justis because the tooling looks just like the Justis I have and the Justis West I had. Isn't imitation the greatest form of flattery?

You need to to go to John's site and look up Jay Flowers. HE originated this style of tooling, I believe.

Do a little research before you chastise John...

Agreed, I think the Justis and the JB's Flowers style cases are newer versions of the Flowers style. I think John is a very bright innovator for new case designs and functionality. However I think that Jack has mastered the Flowers style case and no one does that style case nearly as clean and perfect as Jack and I love the four I own, one being almost 20 years old now.

Both case makers rock and are among the best ever.

The case and the innovation that went into it are very impressive, as usual.

I do share the above worry. What about after 2 years of heavy use if the hole the cue ball is held in loosens up just a tad? Might it drop onto the cues?

That is a good question, "What about after 2 years of heavy use if the hole the cue ball is held in loosens up just a tad? Might it drop onto the cues?"

Very true!

John will do his best to grant your every wish with your case & he won't even rip you off for those simple requests!

Congratulations to the owner, John & Karen!

The ball actually sits pretty much on top of the cues as it is. So even if it were to come out then it would only drop a tiny fraction of an inch and stay in place without moving.

But the way I did the cavity was to make it so that the ball goes in jsut past the mid way point on the ball. Thus it grips the ball at a smaller diameter that is past the median of the ball.

In my shop I did drop tests to see what sort of force would be required to dislodge it and I am fairly confident that it will be okay with normal use.

To remove it however all it takes is slight pressure to push it to one side and lift. The same to push it into the cavity. One needs dry fingers though, don't try it with fried-chicken fingers or you won't get the ball out. :-)

DAMN IT!!!! i WAS HOPEING THIS WAS GONNA BE PICS OF MY BALL CASE. oH WELL.....THAT IS A VERY COOL DESIGN. i LIKE CASES LIKE THIS THAT CARRY THINGS BEYOND JUST WHAT A POUCH OR 2 WILL DO. VERY NICE CASE!!!
