Got Beat and I'm Happy

I forced myself to the pool room yesterday with my backache, it hurt like hell, I have tried this before and I couldnt play, Right when I walked in a 71 year old player came in I wont mention his name but he is well known-he is a strong player and is fit as hell for his age. He asked me to play. Last time I hit a ball was over 2 weeks ago and played bad, we agreed to play 10 ball by the game real cheap, on a tough Diamond table. I only had an hour to play and had the worst of it,

I played good not great, the rolls evened out, first game i was running out from the 3 and got corner hooked on the 10, i was never ahead, but I ended up playing just over an hour because the momentum was swinging my way and I was 6 game loser, it might sound bad but I did mis a 9 ball once and had 2 other chances to win which would have made it closer, i know 6 behind in 70 minutes isnt great but I had the worst of it and as we kept playing I kept playing better, I cant beat him, but he has to work to win. I might have got it back to even or close to it.

It isnt often I lose and feel good about it,

When I was younger and a stronger player-because I played more often in that situation I would have had the nerves etc and probably lost alot more games, now that i'm 40 my mind is quite and if a caught a bad roll it didnt get to me, when he got a roll it didnt get to me. I was playing the balls not the player-I have known that forever but now I can do it.

Fats,

I always feel better when I play well and get beat than
if I play poorly knowing I should have dominated.

ps. I'm working out some kinks but we'll talk soon.

Thanks Fats for the story. My problem is I get down hard on myself and get more pissed when someone gets a lucky roll on me. I hope I can learn from you because I'm 36 LOL. Crap, I better hurry up.

Play straight pool, lucky rolls are like hens teeth. :)

just being able to play with back problems is good enough for me...went out a few weeks back to play. Second shot back tightened up, could barely stand up, but kept playing. Had to straighten up a bit more than I'd of liked, but was still able to run a few racks.

I'm there...

with you Fats. I played Friday evening with a guy/nemesis who has beat me fairly easily over the last 5-6 years. But Friday i was focused and there to play. We played cheap 9 ball and we finished even after 2-3 hours. I was happy because I know that breaking even is the step before winning. Also it helped to shake the jitters i hvae playing against him knowing I have the ability to beat him.

And I also know what it is like playing with back pain. I broke mine a year ago this past June and deal with it everyday. There was a silver lining as now I have the drive and determination to finish my degree knowing that physical labor is out the window for me. Good luck Fatboy!!

I have known that forever but now I can do it.

The skills that fit that description are some of the most important. At least that's what I tell myself with my 60th birthday coming up.

i started to play $20 sets a couple weeks ago with a friend, i was up 4-3 going to 5, he wins 5-4, next set i'm down 0-2 he offered to let me off- i didnt care about the $$$ and were friends, i wanted to see how I played, i missed BIH 2 times in a row and lost 0-5, he beat me 7 straight-I'm a better 9B played he is a lot better 1P player-point is when your back is bad, your game is bad.

Last night-what this thread is about. my back wasnt an issue, if i could have 8 weeks of no back problems I would love to get into real action, the last thing I need is my back to go out playing for a dime.
