Got some issue with the switch...Motor has no power problem?

Hi Guys,

My friend has got a older lathe....he been using for a while but over time the switch was slow to start and now it just seem to suddenly die on him. Any idea how to fix this problem or where he can find a new switch. Was told he might be able to replace a fuse....any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Duc.

Dust in the switch. I've had to replace mine several times.You can buy replacement on ebay pretty cheap. Buy extras and keep them around. You can also get them from Chris Hightower.

First thing I see is the switch shows signs of overheating, which can be due to a faulty switch, or a motor or controller drawing more current than the switch was rated at. Either way a replacement switch is needed. What is the current draw rating of the controller? the switch should be rated about 5 amps more than the max rating of the controller. Grizzly has good replacement ones that seem to last longer than the originals, IMO. It would be a dpst switch which is double poled, single throw. If you have 4 wires going to it, this will wire up the same, if only 2 wires, just keep them to the same side of the switch.This one is a 16 amp switch for 110volt AC controller

i had the same problem with that type of switch and I know it wasn't the motor because it was only 6 months old with light use, it was weird at times it works then will suddenly just stop, then the next time you turn it on it works again : (

I keep 3 switches on hand............ need to replace them every 2 or 3 months............. dust kills them...............

You can also get them from Penn state Ind....
