Which do you prefer, a reasonable green fee say $20 or do you prefer to put quarters up instead?

Would you prefer a smaller Green Fee of say $15 and if you make it to the final 32 of the 128 person board, you pay an additional $10 as a green fee instead of putting up quarters?

As you might have guessed, I don't like being bothered with digging in my pockets for quarters, nor do I like reaching under the table for a spare ball, nor do I like sorting the other stripes out of the nine ball rack.

I'm just wondering for those of you who play in bar table tournaments if you prefer putting up the quarters or a green fee.

I left off the option of no quarters and no gree fee. That kind of thing only happens at Buffalo Billiards in Metairie, LA. LOL

Thanks for your input.

When I ran tournaments I opened up the bar boxes and charged a green fee, cheaper and easier for the players on average.

Only complaints I got were from the guys that knew they would be out in a few rounds everyone else was happy about it.

Green fees all the way!! I've always hated putting quarters in pool tables and when I started going in commercial rooms, I didn't have to.

More details needed.

A $20 green fee is outrageous for a bar tournament.

Are you talking about a "nationals" type of event? Then $20 seem more appropriate.

Personally, I want to know my $$$ commitment up front. To the penny.

OK, fair enough............
128 person field.
race to 7
DE
TWO DAY tournament
Hotel $60-$80
Food $7.50 per meal
Added money $1500.00

Does that change your mind? If so, what do you think would be a fair green fee?

assuming $20.00 entry fee +greens

$5.00 x 128 = $640 covers judges and there food a little to the house.

$10.00x128 = $1280 half goes to the house same as above

$20.00 x128 = $2480 equipment better be perfect new balls cloth respect both ways for the players and the house owner for letting us use there place.

Also rookies would rather pay quarters 1,2,3 games out of tournament $10.00 total

pro's rather pay greens cheaper if you get to top 4 save $200+ in quarters from hill hill matches.

I prefer to pay as I go and use tokens instead of quarters so I can go to Chucky Cheese and buy sh!tload of them @ 105 per $20 and use those instead of the tokens everyone else is getting out of the change machines at 1 token per dollar!

errrr wait,nm i said that. nothing to see here, move along..........

I VOTE GREEN FEES!!!!

green fee's ??

The problem I have is, coin op bar boxes are intended for bangers that knock around for the same coin fee for 30minutes as opposed to the usually better tourney players that average maybe 1 or 2 times at table before having to ante up again . I have thought for a long time that the rise of coin slot fees has hurt the better players action on the bar boxes. Example one guy pays and racks , the other guy breaks and runs out and the proceess repeats for the whole session .
During cheap set or by the game sessions , it's not unusuall for the table to be the ONLY winner .

This is just my opinion and I could be wrong ...

I prefer the green fees also but what the VNEA is charging in Vegas is totally out of line. I wouldn't mind paying $20.00 per event but $35.00 and $40.00 for teams is ridiculous. This year I am playing teams only and I may play the scotch doubles and several minis instead since the tables will be open for those.

The green fees for 8ball and 9ball are $35.00 each and the team is $200.00 per 5 person team.

Singles is $35 for all events.
Team is $120-$200 depending on which event.

OK......Thanks.
If per game was going to be $1.50 anyway, so any game after the 5th round is a freebee. Hope my math is close. I usually get into 7-8 rounds anyway I guess that would work for me. The guy who goes out in two may not like it. Still I understand that all the following second chance etc is included....randyg
