Growing Bolder

SilverCue...Just to get the facts straight, Mike Sigel is no longer associated with the GPPL in any way. He was "let go" (read: fired), for reasons unknown...but he is no longer connected with this league. The league itself is on hiatus. It was played in a few league areas in a few states, but only for one session. The eventual winners, which are from a room where I live (Clearwater FL) ended up winning $10,000 cash. Sigel was present to "help" hand out the cash (I was sitting next to him watching), but that was his last official act as part of the GPPL.

Thanks for the update, must have been recently.

The field was over 100 players with multiple world champions when SVB won his Opens. Sigel probably had 64 at the most as his field.
Earl himself said the field today is tougher.
Sigel was not that old when he retired. He could no longer win much when he retired.

What did the field look like when Sigel won it ?
No way near as tough as SVB's for sure .
I think SVB would have tortured Sigel .

In 14.1 SVB would have been a big underdog. In fact if Sigel got serious about his game I like him to beat SVB today in 14.1.

I put them at about even in 9 ball or 10 ball in Sigel's prime. The advantage Sigel had was an active pro tour back then and he had an amazing record in the finals.

Sigel retired out of boredom and frustration. His ego was (is) pretty big, and to be the most dominant player of any professional sport and not be a multi-millionaire must have been brutal to him.

The "who would have beat whom" question comes up a lot on these boards. I've seen both. I would pick Sigel. That's about all I've got to add, I guess.
