let me take you on this magical mystery tour known as marops poolroom..
hes such a humble guy heres what he told me about the place the first time i went out to stay with him when i played ortmann for ipt.
he said its comfy i think youll be able to relax.
he picks me up from airport in a red 2006 corvette.this car is so badass even steven hawking could get laid driving it.
we get off freeway in very desirable simivalley ,i guess thats where all the 100ball runners live now.
we drive down the 150 yard driveway with a 10 ft cement wall around the entire perimeter with a gate that i think took a retnal scan with finger print and password to open. cool to say the least.
gate opens theres a nice chevy truck , new infinity etc.
house is an immaculate like 5bed 3 or 4 bath 1.3 million dollar place.
10 feet from the front door of his house is a id say 2500 sq ft workshop complete with everything to rebuild race engines.
to give you an idea how good and renown he is in the race world he has guys like kevin harvick come over and b.s. with him about engines .basically hes a 400 ball runner at what he does.
before i tell you about the poolroom let me say this.
i was watching drag racing the other day on espn.
this racer had drag raced for several years and finally won their first race.
well they got this trophy that in the racing world i think they call an oscar.
its a ft tall bronze guy standing next to a tire. nhra gives these away when a pro drag racer wins a major race.
like i said bill is a humble guy and he would kill me if he knew i was bragging on him like this.
when i first met him 8 months into our friendship i asked questions about his engine building and how he got into it. he said well i used to race. thats all.
so i go to his house and their is a picture hidden where few could see it.
its bill in his heyday with crowd and tv in the background interviewing him after winning like his 5th world title.
bill was standing there with the winners check and his racing outfit complete with about 20 sponsor logos plastered all over.
now i look above that pic and what do i see . 39 oscars .i about fell out . remember the racer on espn who was clutching their first oscar like it was a winning lottery ticket,well bills got 39 of them and believe me they dont sell those a walmart.
i tell this story because its like when someone asks me what i do and i say pool , they say oh i used to do that too ,i put myself through college by husling pool.
so i go places with bill and ill mention bill was a racer and all the time people say oh i used do that too . i raced in high school i had a 82 firebird blah blah blah.
bill just smiles and says thats cool.
anyway now the poolroom has a slot machine , popcorn and soda fountain.
the table is a metro perfect cloth,level, railspeed,balls are polished .
its like a dream setup.
honestly bill if i was you i would never leave the house youve got it so good.
all kidding aside im lucky to call bill my bestfriend . youve taught me alot ,helped my carreer alot and you are just a super cool guy.
p. s. you have run 100 plus twice in your spare time even though your whole life has been racing.
if you would have played pool your whole life i have no doubt you would have been a world beater.
looking at your house id say you came out ok lol.

The rail rubber is original, the table is only four years old. The room is A/C and heated so the temp and humidity stays the same all year long. Schmidty says the table plays perfect, he prefers these rails over Diamonds for straight pool because thay are not quite as "boingy" as he calls it.
I have a Ballstar ball cleaner and use it once a day generally.
My biggest issue is I have so much light in the room that when I go to a poolroom it seems dark to me, I guess its old age. :smile:

I help Bob Jewett in the DCC straight pool room, we sat and talked last year for a couple of hours while watching. You showed me the Gina and told me about one you sold a while back. I was so jealous

In the meantime, John Schmidt told us at a seminar at DCC last year to use a damp rag to clean off a table. I have been doing that ever since. I do it at home and I do it at the pool halls I go to. If you use a white rag, you will see all the blue that comes up. Others have started doing it a bit at some of the places I play. They have noticed that the balls break up better when the table is clean.
Bobby Hunter mentioned using something called Color back on the balls. It will clean off the old stuff and put a light polish on the balls. I sometimes use this with my ballstar. I usually bring my own polished centennials to the pool hall for league play.
