gun drill bit

If the gun drill bit is turning, how can you connect an air hose to the air fitting? Seems you could only connect to the air fitting if the drill is stopped. Obviously I'm missing something - don't laugh too hard.

The piece being cored is turning.

Gun drill mounted at the tail stock and the piece that being core is mount at the lathe chuck and turning.

that's the fun part joey!!!
safety glasses are a must ,
especially for a guy like me,
that's already blind in one eye and cant see out the other

My vision is perfect but I have to wear reading glasses. I bought wrap around safety glasses that have readers in them for less than $10 off of ebay. Best thing ever invented.

Coring

Don't most people mount them on the carriage? That way you can take advantage of the automatic feed!

I like to mount mine in the tailstock. That way I can "feel" my way thru the wood when boring. Of course your tailstock must be "dead nuts" on center otherwise your hole will not be perfectly concentric. I bore a 3/4" starter hole in each end with a 4-flute end mill. That helps in three ways:
1. Gives you a good start hole
2. Lets you know if the exit hole is dead on center
3. Eliminates cracking when you exit your piece you are turning
