I have the Billiard Encyclopedia from 1994 that has hundreds of photos of pre '94 cue makers and cues. Thought i would share these.
If there is anything you would like a picture of let me know and if it is in the book I will post it.

I'm not a lawyer... but I don't think posting pages from a publication like this is cool.. Fair use is one thing, but offering to post wholesale is not.

Did you read in the front of that book where it says that it may not be reproduced or copied in any fashion?

Did you know that the author's are forum members?

If I were you I would ask their permission or maybe it is too late>:sorry:

Hope things work out!!

People post pictures on this forum all the time. I don't know if the book is still in print but maybe it will sell a few copies.
And i really don't care, it's my book and I'll do what i want with it.
You forum police have got to lighten up.
Don't you have more important things to worry about.
sometimes I really get pissed off at being told what to say and what not to say on this forum.

I bet you tear off the tags on your mattress as well ! lol. Hey, good photos. I would think the intent is if you are using the material to market, make profit or unfairly infringe on their rights. If they don't like it I'm sure the "authors" will speak up, but I'm giving 10-1 they say it is cool to share...heck, that's why they wrote the book, right?

Heck, there is an entire thread on AZB of funny photos that has been going on forever. Bet there is not a release on even one photo in the entire thread ? Yet, it remains strong and funny !!

Life comes forth from a bk- super cool bk

I absolutely love the Encyclopedia for its pictures ,stories etc. I've even called upon the same wood suppliers George used in VT. All from a picture where it showed Georges receipt for shaft dowels- .45 but in like 1972 he still bought 1000 at a time. I have scoured Gus's pages too. And have traveled to Hawaii ,because of his cues. It always amazes me how many people don't read the pages.

I don't think that measureman did anything wrong.
People use encyclopedia's for reference all the time, and pic's from reference books are always going around the internet.

I "copied" this from Wikipedia
It only applies as long as measureman is considered an "internet intermediary".
If measureman is not an "internet intermediary" he may need an AZ attorney pretty soon.

The Online Copyright Infringement Liability Limitation Act (OCILLA) is United States federal law that creates a conditional safe harbor for online service providers (OSP) (a group which includes internet service providers (ISP)) and other Internet intermediaries by shielding them for their own acts of direct copyright infringement (when they make unauthorized copies) as well as shielding them from potential secondary liability for the infringing acts of others. OCILLA was passed as a part of the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and is sometimes referred to as the "Safe Harbor" provision or as "DMCA 512" because it added Section 512 to Title 17 of the United States Code. By exempting Internet intermediaries from copyright infringement liability provided they follow certain rules, OCILLA attempts to strike a balance between the competing interests of copyright owners and digital users.

thanks for sharing...

heres a sideline question, if the images were flipped horizontally, requiring the use of a mirror to read any text, is it still the same image? if not, is it therefore infringement because its no longer the same? would the flipping be under fair use?

No need to call someone a name, like "forum police." After all, all that was done was to point out that you might be making a mistake. No one called you a "rip off artist."

Thanks to the OP for sharing a a page or two from the book. You try to do something nice sometimes and you have to hear about it after. Sounds like my ex has on here

someone will have to take his lucasi away.

(funny i knew him when he worked in a room where Gus's cues were a dime a dozen)

I'll do the time but I'm keeping my Lucasi.
Hows it going Jer?
Not quite a dime a dozen more like $425 back then, but there were a lot of them.

You are absolutely correct.

Being a spoiled brat is total justification for violating the law.

Good for you.
