Gus On Ebay

Now THAT cue's THE NUTS!!

VERY NIIIIIIIIICCCCEEEEE!

Strong, simplistic elegance.

Just aching to be played for so long now.

You should post it on eBay...just for fun...with no intention of actually selling it.

It would so funny. A Cue Blocker.

It would take so much wind out of the sails of that other cue, and have the committed high bidder seriously caught in the cross-hairs of an actual CONUNDRUM.

And then take it off the next morning...like it was all just a DREAM.

Hi Mr Devore,

After lurking for much of the time..the first post u got..and it way "evil"

Actually if cuerus did list and retract his Szamboti, i believe it would actually help the "price" of the other auction..

Also i notice one particular trend on ebay since 99... when a rare cue starts poping out on ebay, then there would be a couple of similar ones that start listing on ebay after the first one end..

So here's a cue for those one-cuemaker type collectors..

Now...having said that...if you had told me that on a no reserve auction with 8 days and 20 hours left that it would already be bid up to $4,494.44 with that much time left...I woulda' just shook my head (as I just did) in disbelief.

These boys are just blowing their wads, that's all.

Four thousand cues on E-Bay and everybody just piles into this one.

It's kind of pathetic when you think about it.

Hey, who outbid me?

1000 for the box and card, 4500 for the cue. Hey Tate, if this cues worth 10, your cue's worth 15. I'm still in shock, if you know what I mean. Talk to you soon.
Greg

Hi Greg,

Hersheybar was over tonight. We hit some balls with the Szamboti and a Rambow - then went out and played 9 ball for 4 hours. We had a blast!

Chris

Right you are Raist!

It probably WOULD raise the stakes.

Clever twist of fate.

And Chris...I can't believe that you and HersheyBar were playing local tonight and I didn't get the call.

I coulda' been the neutral RACK BOY.

Ah...such are the vagueries of a life right on the edge of opportunity and meaning.

You ended up with this cue? Right from Nick ?

You hit the nail right on the head this time. Someone has put up an unplayed one for "Buy It Now" for $30,000.
What I don't understand about the new one, why only 1 Bushka style ring above the wrap? Was this the norm?

My guess is that this auction will go the way many of the others have of late......pulled before it ends ~!~!~!~!~!

Sean

I think Sean is absolutely correct... This auction will most likely be pulled...
I contacted the seller also.. He told me to make an offer he couldn't refuse..
A Merry Widow Gus cue.. $5k... add for box collector..

i notice that ur "last" cue from Szam has a major flaw that drastically reduced the cue to less than half the price. that would be the smudge!! on address...Such defects has been known to cost big on collections...

To save you of your agony, i propose taking it off your hands for 2k .. Chuck, curator of the cuemuseum says hi btw..

What are frens for anyway.. :)

Raist

Raist,
I think the smudged out address looks cool:p
Ok, I will take the 2k only if you throw your Thomas Wayne cue into the deal:eek: What are friends for?:)

ps. Chuck offered me $100k as long as I sent the cue to him first for inspection:mad:

Are any of you collectors going for it?

Hi Cuesrus,

I think I just fell in love with your cue. ;)
I like the window butt over the plain butt on ebay! :p

Maybe that is just me? Please put me down as next of kin when the time comes to pass it on. I will let you have the kids college fund, for this baby.

Bugs. (I really think a copy of this maybe the best way to go since I am a goverment employee with no real income for such a wonderful item).

I see, RB has something like this on his site..... :~)

Cain,

Sorry, it was a last minute thing - he came all the way over from Palm Springs to take a shot at me. I squeezed the pool game in between my fiscal year-end accounting and my nephew's 21st birthday party.

9-Ballin' with the HersheyBar

No worries, Chris.

Just havin' fun bustin' ya'. I really am only qualified to be RACK BOY with your game.

I was actually thinking what an appropriate hustler handle that would be for me...

...RACK BOY...

...putting FEAR INTO THE HEARTS OF STONE COLD PLAYERS all over this great country soon to be run by the Arab Emirates.

Hope you boys had a good time. And if HersheyBar is looking the other way...I hope you won, Chris.

My prediction....

The cue wont sell. It will either be pulled or bought by a buddy.

I get so tired of them.

lets see if anyone is willing to pay $500 to $1000 for any palmer considering its one in 100,000 ...... the gus 1 in 1200 mmmmmmm....

boy i hope tate doesnt see this:D

.
We buy Palmers, because we like Palmers ! :) If we follow the above line of reasoning, I would have to sell my Chevy and buy a Ford, because Ford's are getting fewer and fewer :) and Maybe someday I'll have a Szamboti, but I won't have a Ford lol....

Yes sir, right on the money Joe. You don't miss a cue, do you?
I thought the price was a bit high back then but it doesn't look so bad now.:)

Maybe it sold. Or maybe the seller ended up with such unrealistically high expectations from all the speculation, that the prospect of selling the cue for a paltry 6 or 7k became unpalatable and they just cancelled the auction.

I suspect that they got cold feet. They would have only seen the $5,500 second place bid (there was an unmatched $7400 bid) and cancelled the auction just before the deadline.

Whatever... Who really cares, anyway? It was just a low end Gus with an ivory joint and a very nice box. Not a whole lot to get excited over.

Chris

ps. speculation here. The high bid was $7,400 and second place was $5500. It would have probably attracted a couple of snipes in the $6,000 - $7000 range, I think the $7400 bid would have taken it and the cue would have sold for between 6K and $7K.

Did anyone here have a snipe set at higher than the $5500?
