Tony Bautista sent me pics of the Gus Szamboti tribute he's doing for me and a conversion of an old house cue I picked up.

Let's start with the GST

Looks like quite a project.

Can you tell us some more about the conversion? Any history?

We operate this pool hall which we took over from someone else. There are some cues there that look nice. This cue is one of the nicer ones ---- considering that it's really beat up. Other than that I don't know anything else about the cue except that it somehow called may attention. If ever I might have 2 other cues converted.;)

Those veneers are very bright for the cue to be so worn. I think it will turn out to be great looking. And, if it's still sound, probably a good hitter too. Good luck with it.

Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to having these cues finished. ;)

Got word that the conversion cue got sawed up today. Feels like I'm on reality TV... The "Extreme Cue Make Over" show...

The GST is also getting its handle today... ;)

Here's are pics of the cue with the handle. All major parts threaded. This one shows the wood thread for its rear end... ;)

Here's another side of the cue showing the other butt sleeve inlays. I'm not sure if you notice the spliced handle. Its made of a 4-piece special cross sectional splice. And yes, both ends of the handle are also threaded wood to wood to the forearm and butt sleeve. ;)

Is the forearm of the Gus tribute made of rosewood?

Sorry,,, and, er, uh, thanks. I appreciate it. ;)

I have decided to go with a Delrin like material for the butt cap to give it that classic look. The one Tony will use will be a little off white. Very light and durable. I was pounding it a cement floor and it did not seem to show any sign of damage. Will put on a thinner SS joint collar and have a modified set-up for the 5/16X14 pin. Will post it when it's done... ;)
