Hal Houle UPDATE

Hal Houle, (rhymes with pool) the creator of the original CTE (Center to edge) aiming system and many other aiming systems is still kicking.

I spoke to he and his wife Sonia this morning. "Sunny" is still sharp as ever. Hal is getting up in age. His voice is still strong and clear but his mental faculties have deteriorated somewhat. Sometimes he would know exactly what I was talking about and other times he would repeat a question. It is what happens to some of us as we age. :frown:

We talked for maybe ten minutes and it was a good talk. I told him about his impact on the pool world and all of the discussions that have taken place because of him and his aiming systems. I talked about Stan Shuffett and Landon Shuffett and how they are continuing to carry the torch for Hal and how they have evolved CTE to Pro1.

Most of the talking was done by me but it seemed that Hal enjoyed the phone call. His wife Sonia thanked me for calling as I infrequently do but there was no need for thanks. Hal has provided far more joy to my life than I could have ever returned to him. It is the least that I could do and enjoyed my time talking with him.

Hal didn't brag about his contribution to the pool world and didn't have anything negative to say about his critics and I didn't stir the pot either.

Hal has some serious physical problems as he has had for some time now and is unable to play pool anymore, but the man in him still wants to get back to the table as he remarked. Sonia felt that those days are over. Still......

All things considered, it was a good day for him and me.

Joey, does he read AZ at all, do you know? I wouldn't expect him to post but it's good to know he's still around! I owe him a lot and so do others.

I haven't spoken to Hal in years. I am glad to hear he is still around.
Hal is a gentleman and even though I only ever spoke with him on the phone his love of the game is obvious.

Good for him. I don't understand his system but he is passionate about the game.

The one and only time I spoke to Hal on the phone, he was still sharp as a tack. It made me feel real special that he spoke to me for a long time and I was the one who had to end the conversation. One of my BCA teammates talked to him also. Hope he lives forever.:)

Same here. I spoke with him for hours back in 2004. It was a very interesting conversation. I made plans to meet with him in person but it never worked out. I regret not making that happen.

Thanks for the post Joey. I spoke to Hal a few years ago about CTE and it was quite a phone call. I am glad to hear he is keeping going and hope his health maintains or improves.

Thanks Hal for giving a lot to the community.
