Hampton Ridge Update: Pool News, Smut, and a Whole Lot of Fun!

Dennis Hatch is in great shape, and last time I saw him, he was going to the gym with his girlfriend and working out on a regular basis.

He's quite a big fellow, and I think he could hold his own with anyone. However, in the ultimate fighting scenario, an opponent can break bones, bite, kick, et cetera. With Blair's Navy Seal background, which include killing tactics, it might get pretty ugly (IMO). I hope Dennis doesn't do it.

Picture of Dennis Hatch taken last year at the Carolinas Open, which is coming up again this year the first week in September, right before the U.S. Open, at Fast Eddie's in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Question ...

Mike...I know Dennis since he was a boy. He, his dad & mom, his uncle Mark, George Breedlove and Brian Groce were all down here in the Motorhome from hell in the mid 80's. He was still doing morning road work <running for non-boxing fans> and shadow boxing. He has good background with fitness and when I saw him at VF, he looked pretty health so I feel he will hold his own. As for the breaking of his hands, it sounds more like Danny Diliberto...who was an undefeated boxer but suffered from the same problems.

Is Brian Groce from Indy like George? If so, I think I played him before
when I lived there in 96-97.

...WPBA Pro Pamela Treadway's....
Not quite JAM. I believe she is now considerd a Semi-Pro by WPBA standards, but she has away to go before she is considered Pro. I am suprised she is not at more WPBA q'ers, as based on the way she preformed in FL she could surely become Pro with the dedication.

One thing for sure, I've talked to quite a few females who are most definitely noticing the new kid on the block, Pamela Treadway. Women are very competitive in real life, much more than the men, but they also recognize talent. At 18 years of age, Pamela's legacy is just beginning. You should hear some of the side rail comments from the women. :p

I heard some scuttlebutt that in Florida, one full-fledged pro player threw her stick across the room when she lost to Pamela.

Snapshot,
I think Brian Groce is from Columbus IN (south of Indy, makes it up here occasionally). Just to confuse things, Brian Gregg (winner of the DCC banks ring game) is from Indianapolis also.

P.S. - I'm NOT sure of this, as a friend thinks that Brian Groce may have lived on the southside of Indianapolis in the past, so if this is inaccurate, then nevermind.

Well, I was caught off guard when she was at a recent PP tourney that was NOT a q'er and JPNEWT, which was a q'er, was closer to her home (I believe) had a tourney the same weekend. JMHO.

Claude has personality-plus. The first time I had ever heard Claude's name was a short time ago via a phone call from a local letting me know that there was a "road agent in town" named Claude. By the time we checked out the pool room later in the week, Claude had departed, but not without stuffing his pockets with a little Maryland money. ;)

Claude was of the opinion that Dennis Hatch and Blair from Florida were currently in negotiation relating to the TWO sets: one of pool and one of the ultimate fighting.

The stumbling block currently, from what I have been told, is that Dennis Hatch wants a rule enforced that once you're down on the ground that the opponent has to release and let up. Whereas, Blair from Florida wants it to be anything goes which is the norm for ultimate fighting. In other words, the opponent can break bones while the other is laying there pinned to the ground, even though they may have submitted or surrendered.

It's a real treat to see Filipino "Jalapena" on the tournament trail, always a strong contender in any event he enters. He's got a great sense of humor, too!

Tough thing is, once you break it once it gets easier and easier to do it again. I hear you on the more money thing; a lot more.

Cueball,
According to some fight experts, Danny DiLiberto was an excellent boxer. When Blair first publicized his challenge, I believe that Danny D. was the first to accept - and Danny is in his 60's!!!!! Blair didn't want to fight someone of Danny's age (kind of a no-win situation) and respectfully declined. Danny is not afraid of a little scuffle.

There were some stories thrown around down at DCC this year (by "Pots and Pans" - the guy dressed like Charlie Chaplin), that suggested that Danny D. was/is no one with whom you want to scuffle - amazing stories if true.

That's something I've never heard of, no tap out? A good ground fighter can choke an inexperienced person to death in relatively short order.

I thought the same thing. I used to watch all the UFC's when they first started and they always had tap out.

No tap out is asking for serious trouble. I wouldn't mess with this SEAL as it is but never with no tap out.
That is just plain crazy!

Another little WPC tidbit I had not known was that the new 2005 WPC Champion Wu was given $400,000 as a bonus for bringing the WPC title to Taiwan by the Taiwanese government. What a great payday for Wu: $475,000.

JAM

Wow  I knew that Wu received a lucrative bonus from the Taiwanese government but I didn't think it was to the tune of $400,000, that is a ton of money over there.

I already promised Jude a drink so you've got one coming too!

See you soon,

I don't understand ...

Why this Blair is making this challenge to begin with.
If he is wanting to prove how tough he is, why doesn't
he enter 'The toughman contest'. I would think he
would be more mature than that.

Makes about much sense as me challenging him in
Pool and then a Table Tennis competition (and I am
good at both).

Besides why would a Pool player want to 'fight' in
the first place, and take a chance that he might
be injured to a point where he couldn't play Pool
anymore?

That and boxers get absoloutely drilled when it comes to bare fisted cage fighting.

I highly doubt that by 'no holds barred' the guy means that you can bite, pull hair, etc. I'm sure it means that knees, elbows, etc are allowed and nobody wins until the other person is KO. This would be the same exact thing as what these underground fighters do to make money, yet they haven't gained the notoriety to enter into the UFC or PrideFC. Here are two videos of some underground fighting that is alot worse than what you see on TV:
