Does anyone use, or recommend that you use hand talc with wood cues. I know that you definetly need it for fiberglass/graphite cues, but what about wood cues. I've seen some of the pros put some white stuff on their hands before they shoot, is it hand talc?

Hello Confused, as a pool room owner, I will not allow people to use hand chalk for any type of cue. First of all, most people do not have the common sense needed to proper apply hand chalk, with out getting it the furniture, all over the pool tables, all over the floor, all over the walls and on and on.

Gloves were designed by a pissed off pool room owner to solve the problem of hand chalk.

By the way, with time you will find that this is a very touchy subject with Pool Room owners who take good care of their equipment, and their establishment. You will also find that this pretty much common throughout the entire industry.

My hands sweat a bit, and when I used fiberglass house cues I needed talc. When I first bought a wood cue I thought I'd need to use talc or some alternative, but it turned out to be unnecessary. I was surprised how smooth it was. So far all I've needed is to rub it down with a Q-wiz pad and I'm good to go. I have a little towel with me to wipe it down when I play, which usually isn't even necessary.

I too used to use hand talc but stopped because I didn't need it anymore. I wish the pool room I go to would get rid of it though. They just put new felt on all the tables and it wasn't even 8 hours before some idiot put white handprints all over the felt. It looked like he changed a baby on it...

I agree that powder is over used and gets all over the place but, if I am a paying customer, and show respect not only for my equipment but the rooms as well, I expect to use it when I see fit. If I make a mess I would clean it up.

If room owners don't want customers theycan try to be jerks to players, and they will loose them. Now I know what you're thinking (or I think I might know). Screw him and people like him, it's my place and I'll run it the way I want. Sure that is your right but, the only customers you will keep are the bangers that have no idea what is OK and what isn't.

I went to my buddies room a couple of weeks ago. And I see over on a newly covered table these guys swinging cues and slamming balls (by hand, not hard shooting) into the slate. I said to my friend, are you going to say something, and he said no, they come in and pay and play, they are renting the equipment.

So what I am saying if I haven't already is, if it is your place you make the rules, but I ask, what is worse, a little talc and vacuming or your equipment being trash by the aholes that don't know any thing. If you piss off and get ride of the players all you are left with are bangers.

Just my opinion.

Cool, I will have to get one of those Q-wiz pads, would a cleaning cloth work as well? My hands sweat alot when I get nervous, then my shaft gets all sticky, so that pad would work wonders, and at the same time I wouldnt get hand talc all over the house. Thanks for everyones input. :)

i use baby powder from germany, it has no smell or oil in it, its the best stuff ever, i have wet hands, so its impossible for me to play without it, the cone stuff sucks,

I never get any on the cloth on the table I wipe it on my tee shits and pants so it absorbs the moisture on my hands and I remove the rest of it, people who dont know how to use talc are the ones making a mess on a table, i can play all night and you would never know by looking at the table I was using talc, i hate how it looks on a table and it also makes the balls skid if there is too much of it on a table, the trick is rub into your hand/fingers and wipe it off before stepping up to shoot, my shafts are perfect no dings and 2400grit smooth. I dont push balls arounf with my shafts only the ferrel.

i tried a glove once and I think they are good for baseball players not pool players, and i'd bet that pro's who are paid to use them wouldnt if they wernt under contract to wear them, just a guess.

Thats interesting, I will have to try that. Thanks for you input. Is it cheaper than Hand talc, I can get a cone for 3$?

Ernie from Gina cue recommends talc.

I use it but sparingly. A little goes a long way.

Hand talc

I noticed that my shaft will start out nice and smooth like glass then after usiing powder its rough again. I also tride that invisible powder but it didnt seem to work. Smelled good though lol,

I use Slip-Stic, but picked up some Q-Wiz at the Expo. Both are great. I also have a Hustlin hand towel attached to my case for when my hands get a little sweaty or wet from touching a drinking glass.

the cone stuff sucks, it gets on the cloth no matter what, it has a resin in it to hold it in a cone shape and is terrible. the German powder is like $3-$4. who cares it lasts forever its penny a day to use it, i'm going to but alot of the german powder next time I go, like 50 bottles of it to hook up my friends, etc.

I hate to see talc on a pool table. I never see anyone around here using it except for once in a blue moon when I see a little mound of it on a drink table.

I keep my hands clean and my shaft clean. If I'm having a drink while I play, I've got that little Hustlin USA towel on my case too to dry my hands before a shot. These have always worked for me.

Would you mind sharing the Brand name and/or source for that powder from Germany...????
My hands perspire constantly while playing in most conditions, and I use hand talc currently (but sparingly...not all over the table like flour in a bakery)...!!!
Thanks.

Thanks.

my friend took a picture of it, i'll have him post it later but the brand is:

Weleda-Brand
Wecesin-name
Pulver-Right under the name, i dont speak German, I spent 3 months there this year.
its in a green and white metal can with a pop-off lid it is 50 grams so just under 2oz.

I wash my haqnds about every 15 minutes while im playing when I use the cone junk and less often using Jonhson & Johnson, I tried Shower 2 Shower and it made me smell like a girl. I have looked and looked for a good powder for years-even when I was in retirement from serious pool, because I have a table at home and play occasionally. I was in germany and bought a cue after my 2nd back operation, the Dr said I needed to streach etc and pool is good because it takes my mind off the pain, so the first night I go out I didnt have any powder and my shaft on that cue was perfect but i have wet sticky hands when I play thus I MUST have something. I went to the pharmacy and the guy said this is the best baby powder, ok why not it was just 3or 4 dollars. He was right it is amazing, I rub in good then rub it on the front of my shirt , it dosent leave a mark any where, no smell AT ALL, I can smell anything.

I'm gonna buy a case of it and bring it back and give it to Jay or someone to take to tournments to give away sell stc, I dont need to make $$$ I'm just gonna hook up the players like me who have no choice but to use something, I played 4 hours the other night, and didnt get any on he table, balls etc. its by FAR the best powder I have ever used. If I needed $$$ I would repackage it and make a short score its that good.

German talc

i'll post the pic of the powder in the photo gallery section, just hit the tab on the top of the page and go to the "Fatboy" gallery, sorry i cant resize it. i'm trying to learn how. sorry i cant post it here, i trued like hell
