Who is this guy Frank Nordmann? He beat Parica and Bart Mahoney back to back 3-0 races.

I see they have 38 players. Lil John Macias is having a decent showing during what must be one of his first trips to the Left Coast. ;)

Doc

Frank is about 40-45, dark hair, plays good but a very experienced gambler said Parica could give him 10-7 in a money game. Frank did play excellent though, making a nice 8-n-out and then went up 7-0 the next game and put 'em uptable. Parica wasn't in top form but Frank didn't give him much air.

Lil Jon played a fine player in Estelle and won a tight match. I only caught a little of it.

Chohan schooled Gande Valle quickly with no fear. T-Rex was up 6-0 in balls the last game and still just fired at long rail banks instead of wedging them uptable. He knew Gande doesn't know 1-P that well and just got it over with quick so he could go bark at Parica. They didn't end up playing while I was there.

Couple of notes: the bottom bracket seems to have more of the Phillipino champs in it and overall seems to be a tougher bracket. Top bracket does include Billy Palmer, LilJohn, and my friend Lance Salazar who just won the IPT qualifier in San Francisco.

Hard Times is a great pool hall. New cloth on the tables, new carpet, lot of good players, a beauty school next door with lovely ladies all over the place.

I went to my local pool hall afterwards and wanted to cry. Junk tables, chipped balls, the same rug that's been there for 15 years, and it was so stuffy I was sweaty after playing in there only 20 minutes. I think they actually charge more than HT too, now. :(

Ed plays young Austin Murphy next and should be the favorite. I didn't see Ed's match with Santos but it was scheduled at 8:30pm and Ed was there early so I guess the waiting around didn't hurt him.

More notes about the tourney- most guys who got a bye in the first round only played one match the first day and then weren't scheduled to play until the next day (today-Wed)

They're using the measles cue ball for the matches.

I thought I saw Dan Wallace there but I don't think he played. Kind of confusing since he's a good one pocket player and just played in Reno.

Bud Green?

Dude, I think I would be making HT my new home and dump the other one.
You have to give props to Austin though (win or lose) isn't that kid like 15 or something? I noticed he played in reno and did quite well against some strong players. If burn out doesn't set in he will be a world beater for sure.

budgreen, how's gandy valle doing...

Gandy got beat by Tony Chohan 3-0 in about 30 minutes... I dont think he plays much 1 hole. Either that or he plays aggressive but wasnt in top form....

He is younger

Austin actually is only 12 and obviously playing very good. He also went to S.F. after getting knocked out of Reno to play the challenge matches at the ipt qualifier. He won 2 and pocketed 2,000 also. He might have to file a tax return next year.

I like Ed Ames as a dark horse.
Doug

Ed is a very good banker and plays 1h at a pretty high level. I watched him and Scott Smith playing 1h for a few jelly beans at Reno and Ed got the best of it. I sweated the match for a while and Ed can definitely play 1h. Scott didn't play too bad either btw.

He Will Gamble

This Guy Frank Nordmann Will Gamble, just Make The Game Right.and He Likes To Bet High.......................

At the King of the Hill in Orlando, Austin was accompanied by his dad, and both of them enjoyed the event very much.

Even though he was in Orlando, he still brought his homework with him. He's not only a good player, but he's a smart kid and seems to have a very nice family who is supportive of him.

It's nice to read about Austin playing well. Here's a picture I snapped of Keith and Austin in Orlando.

"Left Coast." LOL :D

We're pulling for Liljon to do well. He is one of the most enthusiastic players I've ever met, and he sure does have a strong passion for pool. It would be nice to see him bring home the bacon.

BTW, subject to check, I think the Reno and Hard Times Jamboree last year were both won by Marvelous Marlon, back-to-back wins.

From the Great State of Mississippi, Liljon is one of my favorite players to watch when he's negotiating himself a little action! :)

Me, too. Wow, TannerPruess, you do get around! ;)

I recognize the shirt Keith's wearing, so it had to have been taken recently. I'm thinking Glass City Open maybe?

BTW, I think Liljon enjoys one-hole better than 9-ball, but I'm not 100 percent sure. He sure does bank 'em pretty doggone good, IMHO! ;)

He may be home schooled

He and his brother (who is confined to a wheel chair) have been in my room many times and it is always a delight. His brother Brandon is a great guy to talk to and his parents let him play in all the tournaments although he has no chance. But he is a menace in his "power" wheel chair. It is a blast watching him scoot around Reno when he is there. Austin is entering puberty so his emotions get away from him when he loses a match but he will get over that I imagine and then progress to the next level. It seems he has since the last time I played him. It is nice to see Brandon playing in the Sacramento Jamboree. A couple of years ago Austin won a USPPA handicap tournament at my room and he became the youngest player to ever win won and usurped by sons record by a mile of 14 years when he won. I have pictures of that occasion but as usual I cannot find anything.

Marlon Manalo / Is Dennis Orcullo playing in Hard Times?

"BTW, subject to check, I think the Reno and Hard Times Jamboree last year were both won by Marvelous Marlon, back-to-back wins."
=========

Where is Marlon Manalo anyway? How come he has not participated in any US tournaments lately? I know he was in the latest San Miguel asian tournament with Efren, Busta and Gallego but can anyone explain why he has not been visible in the major tournaments here in the USA? I hope he is preparing and honing his skills for the next IPT tournaments. After his spectacular performance in the KOH - IPT late last year, I expected him to really make an impact in other major tournaments.

BTW, is DENNIS ORCULLO participating in the Hard Times Jamboree? The way he has been playing, I would not be surprised if he duplicates Marlon's back-to-back wins in both Reno and HT. Did'nt someone mention before that he beat the legendary Efren Reyes seven (7) times in big money games in the Philippines recently? I do not know what his skill level is in 1-pocket but if 8 or 9 ball is included, then he is my bet to win.

Check out the brackets , the link is on the az main page. Dennis lost his first match to ex Santa Cruz resident and great player Jeff Gregory, 3-0.
Go Jeff. From everybody at Fast Eddy's

Most likely, he's enjoying the monies he won in recent times here in America, not only his fine fourth-place finish at the IPT King of the Hill in Orlando ($70,000, I think), but he also won Allen Hopkins' Texas Hold'em Billiard Championship at the Mohegan Sun which was a very nice chunk of change, a six-figure total if memory serves me right. :D

That would be like history repeating itself, the new Filipino kid on the block here in the States winning every single event he enters! It makes for a nice story. That's for sure!:p
