Has All Civility Been Lost Here On AZ?

I try to send green whenever I see a reason - I think you're totally right.

Does anyone have insight on how the rep system works? I don't post very much, and I have 7 greens in my history. I sent my first red yesterday to someone who said something totally inappropriate about another poster with no provocation that I could see, and when he sent a red back, it turned my whole rep bar red. Is 1 red enough to outweigh several greens? Does it have something to do with how recent they are?

It's yet another extension of society. Common courtesy is far from common nowadays, everywhere you go. Its rather depressing.

Couldn't agree more, I get lots of flak on here from some people when I stand up for & defend my friends. I have people tell me what I think is wrong or try to tell me what I meant by what I said, as if I don't know what I meant. It's very hard to keep my cool sometimes & not respond in kind when someone is just plain mean in their comments to me. I try to talk to people like I would if it were a face to face conversation which is why I use my name & pic on here. I love debating & talking to people on here about things, I know I get more upset when it's about someone I care about but that's no reason for people to be rude when I'm not being rude.

Aside from all of the usual rudeness we see in some threads, the mean spiritedness, etc., there is yet another pattern I have noticed (experienced) emerging, well two, actually, that I find disconcerting.

I get a fair amount of correspondence via pm, some asking my opinion on a value or whatever, sometimes just looking for general info on something the other party might think I can help with.

Since I do like to be helpful, and I prefer not to do things half-assed, I always try to provide a good, thoughtful, detailed response. Yes, I take my time and respond comprehensively.

Guess what I get back in return sometimes?

Zip, zero, nada, nothing.

No, 'thanks, I appreciate it', no 'I thought that might be the case, thx for confirming it for me', just no response whatsoever.

I just took time out of my life to assist you with something and you can't take the three seconds to say thanks?

And the other thing is this. Serve & Spice!

If you read something on az that you really like, enjoy or agree with, send that poster some green rep. I do it daily.

Ahhhhhhh, now I feel better.

thanks.

best,
brian kc

If I remember right I thanked you for sending a payment after you lost a bet not too long ago...if I didn't, thank you for not air barreling me...much appreciated :D

Respect, will it be a thing of the past?

Chicken,

Feeling your pain man. I tried to green rep you, but got this in the process "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Kickin' Chicken again.".

Not that I expect any "Thanks" in return for a PM/Reply, but after spending 10-60 minutes or more for a well thought out, well researched PM/Reply, it is nice to get a little kudos in return or an expansion of thought and conversation on the matter at hand.

I understand life is hectic and spare time can be premium for some, a little appreciation and/or respect in return in most cases usually only takes a few brief seconds. Something I fear is going by the wayside as society evolves.

However on the flip side, I have had some excellent ongoing conversations via PM with some truly fantastic people. I've had the honor of having conversations with some of the greats in the game/industry, and built some friendships along the way that I otherwise would not of had the opportunity for. So for me in the end as far as I'm concerned, I'm far ahead in the AZB world.

As in real life, here on AZB we sometimes have to extend an olive branch with the expectation of being beaten with it in return, that's the ultimate gamble here. In the case where a fantastic conversation ensues and a new friendship is forged, it sure makes up for some of the would be conversations that never took place.

Keep up the good fight man, you seem like good people to this hillbilly....

Dopc.

Your experience is similar to mine. I probably get ~50% response to PMs. Another place that I find it a bit disappointing to contribute is posting in threads. If someone starts a thread to ask a question or start a discussion, less than 50% of the time is it apparent that the OP even read my post. For short one-liners, that is no big deal. But some of the responses involved putting some thought and time into the question without receiving any acknowledgement for the effort. In the few threads that I started, I believe I acknowledged every posting by response in the thread, by PM, and/or with green rep. Some AZers are pretty conscientious about that courtesy, but it is not that common.

The OP is a troll and a hater, IMO

I met Kickin at SBE band camp. (Or maybe AZB) He's one kool sob. ;)

Many of "us" go through a metamorphosous of sorts as we get more exposed. I'd buy him a beer in a heartbeat.

Some may just not have been familiar with giving green or red reps. Like myself. Replying to a PM with a thanks should be a given. Could just be an oversight. I usually look for patterns in an individual before I judge them. Everyone has a bad day.

KK9-

Thanks....I wasnt finding it either(green/red rep button). I use the vB 3.

So, now I know..

Brian...civility is not present on the 91 freeway commute out here most of the time either...must be a highway thing -paved or electronic.

...don't get me started about the direct correlation between lack of turn signals, instantaneous lane changes, and my favorite, 'the not entering the cue for the off ramp 1/2 mile prior, like most of us, but instead, stop all traffic as they cut over at the lassssssst possible moment move' ...and the probability that the offender is driving a newish, and expensiveish foreign made fine luxury automobile.:eek:

..since we're ranting:(:(

btw...NEWS FLASH: It is raining in SoCal today. The drive will be lovely...the rain brings out even odder behavior in drivers, cause it's such a rare event.;)

ps: Brian..greened ya, but didn't see a place for comments. Would have been..'you got that shit right'

We see similar traffic back east, mainly in jersey but I know your SoCal version is legendary.

Is it just my observation or has anyone else noticed the majority of ragey a-hole drivers are in Audis? Like that brand is an ass-magnet. :(

okay, back to regular programming.

best,
brian kc

Which line are you standing on in life? The left-hand line or the right-hand line?

I realize that I have been standing in the left-hand line for too doggone long in this pool world. I need to move over to the right-hand line right away, without haste, while I'm still here on earth.

It's not as crowded, either. :grin-angelic:
