Has anybody seen this logo before?

Anybody seen this logo before? The sticks are supposed to be made around 1980 or so. What is this?

I'd guess the Joe is a Joss
@Chopdoc
Maybe someone in the Joss shop made it?

Janes always said that if it is a Joss, it will say Joss on it.

But we are aware of cues made in the shop that did not have Joss on them.

An example would be the first Rempe cues made by Joss before Rempe took the project to Adam because Joss could not produce the volume required.

I wish Dan Janes or Bill Stroud could answer, but maybe Stephen Janes could help. Scruggs is gone too. Maybe another that worked at the Joss shop, like Mike Sigel, could ID it.

I would put it in the early 80's, maybe late 70's. Diamond catalog era based on the rings.

It does look like a Joss. Strictly speaking, some would say it's not a Joss if it does not say Joss on it. I don't think it matters but it makes it harder to ID.

Also, the engraving is very Joss-like.

I'll say it's a Joss until proven otherwise. I could be wrong, just ask the crazy redhead.

It’s a Joe 😉

Looks like someone engraved their name on it.
Very sloppy, doesn’t look like a professional work.
I wouldn’t buy a cue from a maker that this is his logo and that’s how he engraved it

Actually the engraving looks like Janes did it to be honest.

The strange thing is he did it better by the time he was doing those rings, at least on the Joss logo itself. Originally Stroud did the logo. After Stroud left the logo looked terrible. It took a long minute before Janes could do it tidy.

Any idea on the value of these two sticks? I picked them up for $900 for the pair. I thought they had to be worth $450 each. But I'm no expert on Old Joss. I know they're pretty plain. They're not fancy at all.

Here's the logo on the other one. They were supposedly bought together for him and his father right around 1979 or 1980. He was young and it was right after they moved into their new house with a pool table. But because he was young he can't remember the exact year. But it was 1979 or 1980.

Is the other one a JW?
The other one was refinished and had the butt cap replaced. So the logo was gone. But he swears they were both made together and purchased by his father for him and his brother on the same day. It would be awesome if it was a JW but I was told they were purchased on the same day for him and his brother right around 1979 or 1980. Any idea of the value of these?

I think I might send pictures into Joss and maybe Steven can tell me. He's super cool to deal with. Gets back to me right away all the time on all my Joss sticks.

How awesome would it be? Have a father by you and your brother. Brand new Joss sticks when your kids? I saved up for 3 years to get my Huebler when I was 13. Took me 3 years to save up money to get that Huebler. I wish I had two Joss handed to me. LOL

About what you paid I guess. Certainly not less. You did fine.

Without markings, hard to say. With a name on one, hard to say.

This isn’t making sense to me. The “other cue” has a black ring between the delrin and the butt sleeve and that cue is stained darker. This picture must come from the other side of the cue with the name JOE inscribed. When Joss engraved personal names they did it on the opposite side of where they inscribed the JOSS name. Do you have the cues in hand?

Steven Janes has always been wonderful to me identifying sticks. I sent the pictures to him. One of the sticks had a cracked butt plate and so was refinished. The other one actually does say Joss on the other side. I was drunk last night when I posted that.

Be interested to learn more about the one with no logo. I was told it used to have a logo but it was refinished.

Yes. And it is inscribed on the opposite side. I was too stupid to look at the other side. Both sticks are in hand. Trying to upload a video for you but keep saying file too large.

It says "JOE" on one side... And "JOSS" on the other side. The second stick he said was refinished and so the logo is gone. But he swears both sticks were bought on the same day for him and his brother by his father. Back around 1979 or 1980.

No clue. I just felt certain that they were worth $450 each. Trying to get information on them now. I consider you guys the experts. Guy said that his dad bought one for him and one for his brother in about 1979 or 1980. Always been in the family. Doesn't mean they were made in those years. That's just when him and his brother got them. That's why I'm looking for information.
