Has anyone coached a friend through their earbuds?

Such a shame you are always looking for an argument.
Go back and read what started all this and quit being thick.
Only with people that don't have Facts!

I'm in the process of writing my 'Memoirs', in it I speak about this subject. If you're lucky enough to purchase a copy, you'll understand I know of what I speak!

like I said, shame youre so oppositional. A common trait, rooted in the internal conflict between self importance and fear of inadequacy.

Ill look forward to my free autographed copy

P.S. you remain wrong about this.

You still have NO basis for Your statement!

Just show Proof or experience on the subject in this thread!

You and I both know You can't!

I know I can!

You ARE thick! Where'd you go to school, Chicago?!!?!

look BB two heads are better than one. especially if the one giving advice is a better player and more experienced. he sees many things a weaker player misses or doesn't get the full benefit of a shot.

bill is certainly argumentative and can really get your goat at times.
but his experience and knowledge is impeccable and hard to disagree with.
like him or not.

Tournament Director at recent event said no smart watches or earbuds allowed during play. He said someone in recent Vegas tournament had been caught getting coached over their watch.

In 3c, perhaps. Not in pool though.

I'd still say a decent player actually seeing the shot is going to have better success rate than same level player taking advice thru the ear from a person with a different perspective.
I'm actually surprised that this view has so many supporters with real life experiences to back it up. I just figured my experience, like Maha's, where making smarter choices for a decent shooter but poor tactician led to much improved results, was the norm. Guess not.

And ye, mr3C (whose opinion I actually share) def misread ur post :p... hilarious back n forth boys. Made this sipper that much more enjoyable🍸

I have ADHD, and having music, or even noise cancellation feature turned on helps improve my game (psychologically that is how it feels to me at least, whether it does or not is by the by. Definitely am much more comfortable when it comes to 'serious' games. Every cash game I have played I've worn them with no issue). Some tournaments are fine with me wearing them. Only some bigger events have said 'NO'

I understand the logic behind not allowing them. But to be honest, I don't think someone hiding in the bushes telling me what to do would be helpful, more of a hinderance. There's already enough to think about, unless you intend to follow the instruction given every single time.

Bill has been getting it done in 3C for over forty years. Hard to argue when he says anything about how the balls interact and anyone that has been on the scene that long has to have some insights. I notice that Efren seems to be shooting a lot of 3C style shots in retirement to wow the fans. He played several of the carom style games for awhile and I think he enjoys it. I think it was at the Derby years ago that Efren was warming up with just three balls on the table, practicing three C.

At risk of swelling his head, Bill is a treasure. We need to respect his areas of expertise and perhaps be a little gentle when he misreads something. It is something we have all fallen guilty of at one time or another.

Coaching can be useful. It takes a good coach and somebody willing to be coached. Also needs to be in the original agreement instead of somebody trying to sneak around and coach! When I was a wee lad barely out of diapers a few boys for some idiot reason liked to hammer on their dates instead of teaching them. This was the days of Laugh-In on TV or soon after and I sometimes employed what I referred to as the fickle finger. Put my finger down and tell the young lady to try to hit my finger. I would tell them to shoot soft, medium, or hard. Some of these young ladies with little or no experience on the table ran four or five balls like that with no idea they were playing shape! Coaching, particularly illegal coaching, suffers from mostly being able to be used for the first shot of an inning. If a person can't play that shot and get shape properly there really isn't much help for them.

Memory fails me but Efren was playing One Pocket with someone when he knew nothing about the game. The deal was a top one pocket player would coach him playing against a strong one pocket player. I don't remember details or names and do remember Efren was resistant to coaching especially when told to take a foul. Can anyone tell this story? How did things come out?

You're a different animal bud. What r u? A fargo 700 or so? But just think how much better u can get a fr400 to play with you in their earbuds.

We all know the inner coach within us wants to coach someone to a win. Earbuds and modern communication will make it very easy and satisfying while watching from a few feet away.

I don't have an established rating, I'd guess high 600/low 700, as a couple friends with established ratings here are 700-750 and I keep up with them. Some TD here attempted to incorporate it into their organizing, it just has too many issues in set-up (as does Salotto app - which botched loads of games and I haven't bothered with since) Last year, I beat a guy rated 784 who was ranked top50 on WPAs list before Covid. Prob my best game. Now he just plays Chinese-8 ball.

Shot selection has probably been the biggest part of the game I have worked since I switched from playing only snooker, to mostly pool about two years ago. If I didn't have a brain going a million miles a minute, I am sure some coaching on that in an earbud would potentially be useful. But I think trying to quiet my mind, and narrow down potential options has been a driving factor in improving that aspect of my game. Which is why I do like to play with headphones on.

I think it would benefit some more than others. Maybe that added comfort or reassurance (or having someone else to blame haha) might provide a psychological boost, and up their game. I can certainly see the point in making it illegal.

I'm still mentally chuckling about the anal inserts suggestion earlier in the thread 😂 Not sure that would make anyone play better.

Mr Bill Smith may be knowledgeable, but he doesn’t have a monopoly on knowledge like he thinks he does. He may need some more bedside manner.
