I received notice from paypal that a dispute was opened on a transaction that i had made about a month ago. I had sold a cue on ebay received the money from buyer ,shipped the item received good feedback and then. Paypal puts a hold on my account which there was only a few dollars in maybe about 15.00. The sale was for 325.00 so paypal shows my paypal account as negative 277.00. I contacted them about this and was told the investigation was opened by paypal and it could have been opened for many reasons. I asked about using my account and was told that if i received money it would be applied to the negative amount if i sent money i would have to bring the paypal account up to date before i could use it. So know the good, I decided i just wouldnt use the PAYPAL account until the investigation was done. Well in the middle of the night while i was sleeping what happens Ebay decides they need there 14.00 that i owe for the past months services so what happens. My card that is on file is tyed to my checking account so Paypal takes 291.98 out of my checking account to supply the negative balance and so Ebay can have there 14.00. Has anyone ever had this happen before i really or anything like it.

I hear paypal can snag the money from your bank account.. Now I guess I know..

But I thought they do not do anything besides put a hold on your paypal account until the dispute is awarded to one or the other party involved?

What's the dispute over? I know the cue but what was the reason stated on paypal?

and is the dispute over? You lost? Did you decide you just were not going to reply to the dispute?

I believe there is a 45 day window for disputes/claims to be opened after receipt of payment..

After 45 days there can be no dispute or claim opened.

This is why I refuse to use paypal anymore........

You need to supply a credit card to open a paypal account and be able to send/receive funds..

I think I'm right about that?

Point was others have said they open a dummy account in the bank and run that to their paypal so this couldn't happen.. Paypal snatching money from the bank account..

But even with a dummy account with no money in it paypal can still take funds which will put you in the negative with the bank and then you will owe another fee with the bank..

Correct or not?

yes!!!!! and good luck trying to get it straightened out
it will take you a good hour at least just to get to speak with a person that speaks english that isn't reading his or her replies from a prescripted page

when your arms fall off and your ears start to hurt from holding the phone for so long, you'll get cutoff or get so pissed off, you'll throw the phone against the wall and give up
maybe you will get lucky or maybe you have more patience than i do
GOD!!!! i hope so
i have a problem with paypal right now that i CANNOT get resolved
paypal says it's dell computers mistake
dell says BS, it's paypals mistake
back and forth between the two for hours and hours and i have gotten NOWHERE!!
again, good luck to you

When i contacted Paypal i was told the investigation could be for many reasons. It shows on my account that Paypal is the one that opened up the investigation not the buyer.

I"m leaving for Vegas Thursday so if anyone sees me walking around with my head down its not because i lost a match. I maybe light 291.88 in my pockets. lol

Well if it's over the cue I can't understand why paypal would open the dispute??

and you should get your cue back if they take the money..

I seldom use ebay or paypal anymore. I occassionally sell or buy there. I would be interested in knowing why paypal is disputing your transaction. Please keep us updated. Do you know ebay owns paypal?

Yes i do know the own paypal. I plan on calling them again this morning to try and get an answer from someone. I was just talking to a friend about this yesterday and he had heard that ebay was trying to make it where the only way you could do business on ebay was trough paypal.

Half and Half - You can have a basic PayPal account where you do not have a source of "backup funding". This is pretty limited and most people "upgrade" so that they can do more with the account.

"Backup Funding" is another name for a blanket authorization to electronically withdraw from your bank account or to charge the card you list for that purpose.

If you don't want PayPal getting into your checking account... Remove your checking account as "back up funding" for PayPal. Right now you have it set up with your checking account as back up for PayPal. You can easily remove this. However, If your PP account remains negative for, I think 60 days... they will close your account and you will have to start all over...after the debt. is paid.

Making paypal the only way of doing business on ebay would make them a lot of money coming and going. The could charge you for listing the item, a % of the sale price and then when the buyer pays they take a % of the incoming money. I wonder if this is legal. Cancel the credit card. Close that back account. Sell all your items here on azb.

This is why don't use paypal anymore. I had it for years, used it 100's of times both paying and getting paid. One day I changed accounts and when I tried to use it it sid someone else has that bank account number. SAY WHAT?

After 25 e-mails and talking live to someone (Idiot) I got the same thing when I trid to use it. When it works it very handy. When there is a problem....forget about it. Johnnyt

PayPal is owned by ebay so this is exactly what they are doing. However, it would be illegal for them to force you to use their payment plan where they make a profit. Therefore, there has to be payment options.

Well what was the reason said from them on why they took the money in the first place??? I would still call and find out why they did this to maybe prevent this happening again in the future..
