Just wondering if any of you cuemakers have made a cue with say balance pt. above 19.5" or below 17"? How did this effect the playability. wouldnt it cause more or less deflection?

i have made a couple with balance points of almost 20" and i really like them.in my opinion it would not raise the deflection at all.i like the balance point forward on playing cues anyway about 19-19" so maybe i am not the best judge.

balance point has nothing to do with deflection. deflection is caused by mass at the tip end of the shaft. the heavier, the more deflection

Unless specifically asked for something different, I make all of my cues over 19.5". If I want a butt heavy cue I'll sell them a Meucci or such.

I made a break cue that was 26 oz. I collected in advance, because I knew I couldn't sell it to anyone else. The balance point was around 15" from the butt cap. That's what they wanted & I gave it to them...JER

I am curious why most people apparently prefer forward balanced cues, 19.5 inches for example. Does it promote accuracy, or is it just a feel thing? TIA

Really not for sure. What i have noticed is after years of playing. If i use a cue with a 17" balance pt i will hold the cue near the end. If i use a cue with 19.25 balance pt i will hold the cue not as far back. This could be something to consider when having a cue made.

i dont pay much attention to total weight. i add the specs for knowlegde. i almost strictly go by balance point. all faxtors in but when you make enough cues in your style you knida know where your going to fall.
