Has anyone seen this match...

I'm highly inclined to purchase the accu-stats tape sold here at AZ between Neils Feijen and Fong Pong Chao from the 2001 (?) Tokyo 9 ball tournament. The rub is that I'm purchasing it primarily because I've never seen Chao's play and, as I understand it, he is a pretty special player as far as his shotmaking ability. Funny enough, this match is nowhere to be found in the actual accu-stats site and I haven't found out yet what the score was. I just didn't want to purchase a tape where Feijen strings 7 racks together and Chao hardly gets to shoot. So my question is: Has anyone seen this match and is it representative of Chao's play in general? My secondary question is: If this is an accu-stats tape, how come it isn't on their website?
Cheers to all great AZBers!

Hey, Lewdo. Was nice seeing you at ABC West last weekend.

My advice, if your only objective is to get a nice sampling of Chao's play, is to ignore who his opponent is and get your hands on a tape of any match in which he wins a close one. Chao is, as you say, a very special player.

For my money, only Archer, Hall, Reyes, Lassiter, Souquet, Sigel and Bustamante can rightfully claim to have played better nine ball than Chao. Put another way, Chao makes my top ten nineball players of all time list, so do what it takes to get a tape of him.

On aside note, I remember watching a Challenge of Champions event in the early 1990's and the final came down to two guys I wasn't very familiar with named Souquet and Chao. I had no idea I was watching two guys who'd prove to be among the best nineball players ever.

I recommend you get your hands on wpc 2004 chao matches. In most of his group matches, Chao played near-perfect game and also had the "climax" of the tournament with the hill-hill L8 match against Pagulayan, that is and was one of the most high class matches I've ever seen. Also, you can feel the pressure oozing through your screen.

That was my favorite match of last year, I remember Alex hooking himself late in a run out when the match was hill-hill and Alex shot pocketed the object ball off one rail.

It's been a great pleasure seeing you as well, sjm. I've posted a thread here about Chao before and I think you know how badly I want to study the guy's play. Fortunately, I think I'll be able to trade tapes with a fellow AZBer. He's actually got the Pagulayan-Chao match sniper and mjantti refer to so highly. I just thought I'd grab this Feijen-Chao match as well, but I worry that it won't be representative of the guy's game since Feijen won that match, and I'm uncertain by what margin. I should probably curb my impatience...

By the way, mjantti, I wanted to congratulate you on recently making the Finish team. We are proud of you.

I have a copy of the Chao vs Feijen tape from the IBC Tokyo 9 Ball semi-finals. It is hosted / commentated by Allen Hopkins, who does a fine job under the circumstances of being the sole commentator. The match itself is exciting, as both players are seemingly at the top of their respective games.
Several side notes...Accu-stats used to offer this and many other tapes in their older catalogues, however, they have updated over the past several years and no longer off many of the older tapes. BTW, the quality on this tape is very good...I can't tell it apart from anything else Accu-stats has offered & I have 191 of their tapes. (I really, REALLY love our great sport!)
Also, Fong Pang Chao is one of my very favorite players. This tape very nicely captures not only his style, but you can also catch his many nuances, including his patented laser like glare - "Stone faced killer" - and also the players are shown often as they are relegated to "The Chair" in between their innings. Much to like on this tape and I personally would highly recommend it to you.
On a side note...SJM, I've always enjoyed and very much respected your posts here on our forum. Thanks for both the content and the gracious way you communicate.

Cheers to all great AZBers!

I haven't seen this tape. I've seen the WPC where he plays Morro in the finals (several years ago) and Deuel. I also saw his WPC Taiwan matches.

The thing about Chao is he plays the most precise pattern play I've ever seen. Watching him play 9 ball is like watching Mosconi play straight pool: one simple, easy shot after another. It's mind boggling. It looks like the balls roll up perfect for him, but it's just that he's so good he rarely has a difficult shot.

Thanks Terry and Tate for your posts. It seems like I'm gonna have to get this tape after all! Terry has dispelled my fears that this match might not be representative of Chao's play, since Neils did win it.
Thanks again and on to the purchase!

How very generous of you, Terry, to say that. I really believe that nearly all on this forum communicate with insight and respect for others, making the AZB forum experience something very special.

Thank you very much. So far the season has treated me well, I hope I'll win a few matches at the EPC as well. Thanks for your support !

Whatching Chao's best games has definitely helped me learning nine ball, especially for his superbe pattern play. If you can, look for his first WPC finals, in early 90's (90 or 91?). He won vs. German Thomas Hasch like 7-0/7-1, and whatching that match opened my mind to how to play 9ball more than any other match. I'm sorry I don't know how to find that tape, if someone knows it, I'd be very interested too.
