I was having trouble chicken winging in my stroke. One of the old timers at the pool hall threw an empty beer bottle on the table and told me to practice my stroke in and out of the bottle without touching the sides....after a bit it worked. I am sure 1000's of you have heard this, but for the ones who haven't....it worked for me.

I can chicken wing it inside or outside and still stroke thru the bottle.... The chicken wing is usually a sign of an improper stance..... It's the body working towards a straight stroke when you put it in a position that it's not gonna happen otherwise.....

I didn't say it happened yesterday. It was a long time ago, and I saw someone do it the other night and it reminded me.......I've been playing long enough....

I used to practice like this once upon a time. The best beer bottle to use is red stripe beer. It has the smallest opening and therefore the least room for error.

Recently i have been using 2 upsidedown golf tees set about a chalk width apart just behing the cb, shot an ob in any pocket you want just stroke through the cb and dont nock the tees over..

Do you have to consume the beer from the bottle before using it ?

I left that part out of the instructions, but yes....it is one of the most important steps!!!

LOL...That sounds like the "TIP" of the day,eh.

If I recall correctly didn't Buddy Hall have a trainer for the same purpose. I believe you could adjust the angle of the trainer to match your stroke angle.

I like the idea of using the golf tees. You can set it up on a pool table and shoot the ball with it. Joe Tucker subscribes to this and his device which looks like a football goal post allows you to practice straight shooting and lets you shoot the ball.

It's more satisfying and fun being able to hit a cueball than just air!

Playing with a guy they call Old Man, or Grandpa around here, that's the only thing he'll ever teach someone. It's worked for several of the new comers in the last few years.

Bert kinister dvd

Bert has a great dvd called advanced fundamentals. By far the best info out there on this subject

I thought the bottle drill was good for working on follow-through. The shot I use to work on a straight stroke is shooting the the cue ball from the break spot towards the end rail and having it come back on the shaft.

you can find all that stuff on youtube free

There isn't any thing as satisfying (almost) as emptying that bottle to use it as a training tool. And you won't find THAT on Utube!!!!!!!!!!:cool::grin:

hahah i will be testing this method out tomorrow night, i have a feeling it will take a lot of bottles to find that perfect one to try this method out

Sounds good. But with too much testing you may need a Mickey 's
Wide Mouth by the time you're done. Enjoy!!!
