Having your own bridge head in your case

Just out of curiosity, why do people have bridge heads in their cases? Do some pool halls not have any? (yet to encounter this) Or is it because the ones supplied by the pool halls have a chance of scratching the shaft? Sorta confused with this concept. I have yet to have my shaft scratched from a bridge, but what do you guys recommend for a bridge head?

My pool hall only has couple and my sister is really short so she uses one alot and always has too goo looking for one so she got her own its nice too have one imo

Hmm, every pool hall I've been to has at least once bridge stick per table, sometimes two. The only places that I go to that normally don't have bridge sticks are apartments/condos when I visit my friends.
 
its not always a need but its nice having. Some new bridges do diff stuff too make some shots easier as well.

Personal preference :thumbup:
 
I carry a just-a-bridge in my case. I can't say it gets a huge amount of use, but I know it's not going to damage my shaft and it has gotten me out of awkward spots on occasion.

+1 for the Just-a-Bridge. I have one in each Cue Case.
 
I carry one only because when i need one ..there is somehow never one around..

It really is a great little tool. I can probably count the number of times I've needed to use in the last few months on my hands, but each time has been invaluable, and either allowed me to continue a run or avoid a foul. And all for less (I think) than the price of a piece of Kamui chalk.
 
Not everyone shoots at a pool hall. I play bar room 8 ball league and APA 9 ball. The bar room bridges in our area are not in the best condition and some bars don't even have one. There is one pool hall in our area and I do not care for the owner.
 
Thank you for your input everyone, I just placed an order for Justa Bridge. Judging from the video, it's a very good quality product. And because it's felt lined, I can be rest assured it won't damage my shaft. You guys are right, it's always good to have one as a precaution as you never know the environment you enter will have. I'm surprised some of you even have more than one!
 
i actually have one in my case. there are bridges in poolrooms that could put dent on your shaft.

I have a Justa Bridge too. They're by far the greatest bridge head ever invented. I had a moosehead in my case that I would put onto a house cue if I needed it, but it would regularly pop the tip off when I removed it. Never happens with the Justa and I don't worry about shaft scratches etc. You can easily jump with it even in the middle of the table too. They're fantastic.

There are a few places around me that don't have a bridge at all. These are not pool halls mind you, and bridges are generally thought of as B*tch Sticks. In fact in one tournament, guys are not allowed to use bridges but females are. Comes in handy in league matches there to have one though. I think I'm the only guy on the team that carries my own bridge head.

The worst sound in the world is that squeak a cheap bridge head makes as it gouges grooves into your shaft. Like fingernails on a chalkboard.

The bridges in many pool halls stink, either too shallow, broken or not enough positions, many don't have a low spot for draw, and they are often metal which can scratch the shaft easily.

Cheap and easy is the mooshehead one, just slip it on your break cue or a house cue. Think it's like a fiver to buy.

I see you have a break cue, don't the pool halls have house cues you can use for that? Why do you have a break cue? Maybe because it's better? And you have chalk, pool halls have chalk. Same thing with bridge heads.
 
Hmm, and I thought I had it all. Adding that to my amazon cart. Btw, amazon sells moosehead bridges for 2 bucks. They're gonna put people outta business.
 
I carry a Moosehead in my case. 90 % of my league matches are places that only have crappy metal bridges. Just hearing it rub against my LD shaft was enough for me to start carrying my own :-)

Opinions on pool halls and bars, and the equipment.

I have see allot of people take out their frustrations on pool equipment.................

I remember one bar the cast pot aluminum bridge head was cracked and the crack would scratch the shaft on whom ever used it.

I made the mistake of using that bridge once, and now if I use a house bridge I check to make sure the bridge doesn't sharp casting edges.

The Moosehead bridges work good but everyone should know they can pull off a tip when removing the bridge from the cue shaft.
 
One of the places we play league out of isn't a pool room, but a sports entertainment complex, tv's everywhere, arcade stuff for the kids, etc, and its attached to a bowling alley.

They have 17 9-foot tables, and maybe 3 or 4 bridges :eek:

People keep stealing the bridge heads, apparently.

I have an old cheapy cue in my case to use as a bridge with my moosehead, as it is black and doesn't look like the house cues, so people can see that this particular bridge is someones personal bridge. I still let most anyone nearby use it that needs it, but this way I don't have to go searching to see where someone has left it.

A couple other league players have their own bridges, too, so we usually have enough to go around, with a 14 team league division.
