i cannot stand it anymore, for all you that doesn't know the difference, a sneaky pete is a cue without joint rings that a near blind person can see from across the pool room. the idea of sneaky is to make the other person believe you are playing off the wall. the next thing is going to be a sneaky with joint rings, mother of pearl inlays, linen wrap, 8 points, etc, etc. a sneaky is a cue that when screwed together looks like a bar cue. please lets leave it that way. keep your head down

I have a sneaky pete with rings at A,B,C,D,E with and Irish Linen Wrap and a steel joint............right. :)

The new Predator sneaky pete is a 8 pointer with veneers, lol.
 
Chuck, most of us do know that what you describe is a true s/p. However, it is the nature of human beings to embellish...we can't help ourselves.;)

For instance...since I started the thread...my Josey, which is the first cue featured, is pretty darn fancy for a sneaky pete. However, it did start life as a sneaky...it just got dressed up.:D For the record, Keith doesn't like calling these sneakies either, but for lack of a better definition or category to fall into, it is what it is.

The reason for the collars at the joint was more out of necessity than anything else....most true sneakies cannot take being used to break with for any length of time before they want to split at the pin. I realize that this may not be the case with yours, due to the wood pin that you use, but with the metal pins used by most cuemakers, the wood just cannot handle the continued stress....or so I have been told.

Until we can come up with a better description for these embellished cues, I'm afraid that s/p is gonna stick. For the record...they're not really Hustlers either. I think they are a basic full-spliced non-veneered 4 point cue...but it's a mouthful.:D

Correction, op is a cuemaker, (Chuck Starkey) calling it how he sees it. It is original, because so many cuemakers are making sneaky pete's that couldn't fool the blind.

I agree with you one hundred percent Chuck. If a cue can't fool you into thinking it's a one piece from a few feet away, it's not a sneaky pete.

Nice to hear this coming from a cuemaker.:)
 
when i make a sp i reverse the pin and tenon the shaft. this make it quite a bit stronger. and in my opion makes the stick feel better.
