Heads up!

Deadpoked and Av84fun, why the hell do you even read each others posts??? Wouldn't it be simpler just to put each other on ignore and not continue with the flame war?? Or do you both like it that much??

Thanks for the advice. But here's a blast from your recent past.

You are, indeed, entitled to your opinion. Maybe your friends should speak up once in a while.
Maybe I'm in the "clique". So are you. It's called my ignore list. For some reason, you piss me off.

Sorry, since I didn't know I was in the clique, I don't know who they are and I don't really care. Just the tone of the whole clique thing I find very annoying. Some people just can't stand not being noticed or whatever. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Seems like you don't mind responding to posts you find objectionalbe.

It is a little different when objectionable remarks are directed toward YOU isn't it.

For example, if I was to suggest that your post was ignorant and stupid (which I am not...just for sake of argument) your post history shows that you would be highloy likely to respond.

So before handing out advice, you ought to be sure that you don't make the same sort of posts...for the same reasons...that you complain about.

Just a thought.

Jim,

The only thing I care to respond from your post is above in bold red. I don't believe you intended to say that I threatened you or your family by cell phone, but the way it reads... it does. I ask that you please edit your post to reflect that I in no way ever threatened you & your family at anytime.

Thank you av84fun for editing the post.

I did so because it was the right thing to do. Editing your post #36 in which you called me ignorant and stupid would also be the right thing to do but you have chosen not to do so.

But that's ok, we all have our defining moments and they have value in and of themselves.

Regards,
Jim

Never mind. If anyone read this before editing, please disregard. I did not realize that the post in question had already been edited.

NPR - I stated this in another thread

I would like to see the NPR subjects kept in the NPR section.

However, there are always certain subjects that arise that keep the interest of the people in the main forum and items that posters want responses from people that frequent the main forum.

Even some of the threads that start off pertaining to pool, or, are somewhat pool related, get off on a tangent and become a political or argumentative discussion on ones feelings toward society/government/laws, etc.

Maybe we could have the FORUM posters police the main forum. Meaning, that a button, (similar to the rep button above), is located above the OP original thread. If posters find this inadequate for this area, they could click on the button.

If 15 or 20 ( or pick a number) get clicked, the thread would transfer to the NPR. Or, if not possible in the software, then it automatically sends a (1) message to the moderator that this thread is inappropriately placed. Then, no questions asked, he just moves it.

This way, he would not get bombarded with text messages about inappropriate threads in the main area.

Just a thought. Could be worked out better with a little more thought, maybe..:D

What would I do without you :)

And, you should have posted a link to THAT thread and Forum.... imo
Allow me to help: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=97323

Doug

Yes, but just as I posted that, it got moved to the NPR forum. Couldn't find it so I just back arrowed and copied. After I found, I figured no one would go there to read it and it is easier to post than to link.

But, thanks for the link. Now it is like wearing suspenders and a belt. Covered in both aspects..:D :D

Be advised, I am strongly considering giving warnings when NPR stuff is posted in the main forum.

There is an NPR forum and you are expected to keep the non-pool stuff there.

Enough is enough.

I am tired of fielding complaints for this.

Mr Wilson when are you going to ban half naked women for avatars?
I have a 8 old boy that I do not let him surf on AZ billiards because the avatars have got out of hand
Thanks

I have to agreeeeeee with 4 children. Dad & Mom both pool nuts have to hide the forum from the kids. Some avatars (and posted pics) are border line some are just not acceptable..... like almost naked people and I really do not like DeadPoked's avatar....that's pushing the envelope :(): I tried not to let it bother me. I'm sure our 7 year old won't get it but our teenager will.

We want our kids involved with billiards. If poolers want to see pictures like that they can go all over the website. The forum is for pool related stuff, except for NPR section.

If you go to "User CP" there's an option to turn off the avatars. It's very simple to do and will rectify your problem. I'm not a big fan of censorship and luckily there are functions like that so that people that don't want to see them can utilize them so that both parties win.

Unfortunately most would rather complain about it than be proactive. Just choose the option to turn off avatars and you don't have to see them and the folks that aren't offended won't have to be censored just to appease someone else.

EDIT: I just checked and there are a little over 12,000 registered members. I would venture a guess that no more than 100 are children. While this isn't an "adults only" site, the overwhelming majority are adults. Asking 12,000 members to mind their avatars for children's sake when there's a "turn off avatars" feature available is really kind of silly in my opinion.

To Pool or Not to Pool...that is the Question.

Terry Ardeno said:
And that is a very well stated post that is oh so true. I know many of the pool forum posters but only a small % of the NPR crowd unless they're cross-overs from the pool side.

Tonmo makes some great points in his post. I can see where he and Mr Wilson have concerns. Too many of the non-pool stuff will clutter up the pool forum. But personally speaking, I agree with corvette here...I just don't click on the threads that don't interest me.

Bottom line, we'll all abide by whatever rules there are here. This is still the greatest site on the whole internet. And I'm very happy here no matter what. :)

Once a non-pooler has warped to the pool side there is no going back. ;)
I understand being a newbie. I was clearly messed up once I had a cue in my hand, I think pool everyday.

***Merriam-Webster Definition of WARPED: A mental twist or aberration***

First Q/A 1) Why are non-poolers on here anyway?

***Glad to see you love your wife.... That's sooooo SWEET!!!!***

1) This is NOT a democracy, it is Mike's website, and he does a heck of a job, along with Mr. Wilson.

2) Mr Wilson is totally reasonable with his requests. This is a billiards forum, and it should always be the main subject and driving force. I must admit, I think 2 times in the past, I posted something NPR in the Main forum, but it was simply a mistake on my part, and because I was excited at the time.

3) I THINK THAT ANYONE THAT DOES NOT POST ANYTHING POOL RELATED IN POOL RELATED FORUMS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO POST IN THE NPR SECTION. This would weed out trolls and undesirables from cluttering up the NPR section.

4) The Political debates, if that is what you can call them, gets really tiring. I mean have you ever convinced someone to your way of thinking politically, especially in a forum? The answer is a resounding 'NO'. (Can I get a long reverberation on that NO?). Furthermore, have any of the incessant political debaters ever held a public office? I have, BTW, 2 terms.

5) Now, we have some little boys on here that post simply to 1-up someone they have targeted. The thread doesn't make a difference, whether it is justified or not, doesn't make a difference, their main purpose
is to 1-up the other person. (And you know who you are, because the hair just stood up on the back of your neck.) My suggestion Dave, is to give them a timeout until they learn to play well with other children.

6) Jude, Jam, Neil made some good posts and points. But, Jenny, as someone that is an IT professional, and having worked in the field for 30 years, maintenance work can be very time consuming on a system, and since Dave is a volunteer, I do not think he should be burdened down anymore than is necessary to keep the system running smooth, and so I take a little exception to Dave having to be moving a bunch of threads on a daily basis, it should be just an occasional exception type thing.

If the rules are followed, it would not be a daily type task to perform.

7) Pictures, Videos, etc.. should NOT be allowed in the signature line, they are annoying, take up too much space, and are NOT pool related, IMO. I think Eric Yow's is the only exception since it is Pool related.

I agree whole heartily. Good job Mr. Wilson. Excellent job Mike.

So noted.
I like most avatars, I'm not a kid and still offended by some of the material. I guess I'll have to turn it off for my kids sake. It's a shame the minority (with no respect to others) will rule over all. Then again, we'll see what the administrators think. Thanks for the tip.

Look's like you succeeded in your quest since now DeadPoked is an "inadequate user" instead of a registered user.

Kinda shocking that my post ended up with over 100,000 views... I guess most of the problem can be blamed one me! :)

No that is a good thing for AZ.

More views = more money for AZ. That's basically why it is still there.

Marketing....for Billiards....

Yes, marketing and advertising and word of mouth; more views more money and more awareness for the billiards industry! We do not want a "dying breed".

We want to attract more young people (and older) to the "SPORT" and get that "goof-off play" mentality gone. Even though it is "FUN" it is still a "pro-sport". It's sad that the US overall treats this so second handedly. Where else can you go watch a sport for $10-$25? I can't get into a hockey game for under $50.

Therefore, it's a personal vendetta for me. Everywhere I go I ask people if they play. I refer them to the site. I'm not the only one..... there was 170 "guests" on last night when I logged out somewhere around 1:30a.m.

It's not easy getting clients and pro backing. Keeping the site "clean" will help this. People in bathing suits (or other) is not bad but naked or profane is pushing it. Someone once said... "If you build it they will come". (Mike did) I'm saying, "If you keep it clean they will stay".

Just for the record. I am with you on the provocative avatars. My only comment was on the "hits" on a NPR item still in the Pool Related area.

I've been an inadequate user since '04. I've been a user without an avatar since yesterday.

I'm soooooooooooo confused...if I recall, your avatar at FIRST glance looked like it might have been something other than what it was, but if my memory serves on closer inspection it was as tame as a mouse....:)

Is my memory correct, or am I missing something?

btw...new Avatar *is* nice lookin'.

If they took it down because of where some peoples minds took them, THAT is *beat* IMHO

Apparently some people have dirtier minds than others and saw it for more than what it was, a ladies hand holding a mouse. I work within the IT industry, supporting the Special Forces, and I found it to be a beautiful depiction of the act of a persons hand holding a mouse. A mouse that is a simple interface which allows us access to the most amazing the most amazing device of the 20th century, the computer.

It's really a testament to how corrupted our society has become to think something so beautiful in it's design could be anything else than what it was.

:D :p

Surprisingly, no moderator ever told me take down the avatar and I think that is noteworthy. I just grew tired of seeing messages from people that didn't agree with the avatar and decided I didn't want to offend anymore people. Simple as that.

Hopefully no one reads any further into my beautiful Mike Stacey cue.
