The US military has 20 different sports that the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force compete in internationally and nationally. Our teams play other countries across the world in sports ranging from basketball to golf, and even fencing and equestrian. So I sent the following email to CISM the world military sports authority and forwarded it to the DOD sports authority asking why cant pocket billiards be included as an international sport. I am sure all of you can guess what happened next..... NOTHING! I was ignored.Well i am going to send a new email to these two authorities once a week until I get a reply. I also thought that maybe some of my pool playing brethren on here, especially those that are service members, could send just one email to each to help my cause. Here are links to their websites where you can find out more info.

Dear CISM,

I would like to ask the representatives of world military sports why
isn't Pocket Billiards a sport covered by CISM? Pocket Billiards is being
played more and more worldwide. Europe Asia and North America being the
biggest participants in the world in Pocket Billiards. I am sure there are a
number of service men and women in every country that have a love and are very skilled in this sport but rarely have an avenue to pursue it. I am such a soldier. I and many like me rarely get a chance to compete in the sport
that we love due to our duties. When I rarely compete it is against American
professionals and semi professionals. I do this on my own time and only
represent myself. I would give anything to be able to have a chance to
represent the US Army, the USA, and even CISM if given the opportunity. To
have that chance I need a large organization such as yourself to seriously
take my concerns into consideration. Pocket Billiards is a legitimate sport
just like golf. It takes years of practice and competition to master, and you
need to be mentally and physically in shape. I talk directly to the CISM
organization in hopes that if you validate Pocket Billiards as a CISM sport
than my country's military will follow and do the same. Thank you for your
time.

Sincerely,

Anything you guys can do would help alot, as much as everyone posts I am sure an email isn't to much to ask.

Thanks Everyone!!!

Change your approach. Instead of asking why Pocket Billiards is not included, you should suggest the consideration of including Pocket Billiards as a Sport. Used the World Games as an example of competition that includes pocket billiards. Search for some history to support that pocket billiards is played world-wide.

Instead of using the I/me/my approach, used the "we/group" approach.

Don't ask to take "your" concerns into consideration. Talk about considering the potential of pocket billiards as a team sport (ala Mosconi Cup), and how it could develope friendly relations between the armed forces of member countries. Use information in the CISM website to promote/suggest pocket billiards.

Don't bug them with the same repetitive email, demanding an explanation. Use a gentle, kind, and respectful approach to have them consider it in the next General Assembly.

Good luck with it brother. If I knew you were a service member I might have let you out when we were gambling. :p I have done that before with a service member.

Also IF it helps you you should contact Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann who were both in the German Military Sports division where their JOB was to train and play professionally.

At least I think this is true.

I know that Hohmann was definitely in the military. I didn't know about Souquet, but given Hohmann's background, it would make sense.

Thanks guys for your input. I will try to change my approach as I was to busy to email them yesterday. I will try to give thorsten an email and see if he is interested. Lenny I hope you dont excpect me to let you out just because I am a service member.

Anyways thanks guys I will keep trying

Back in 1992, I was on the Ft Benning pool team...we went to Ft Carson, Ft Campbell, Ft Bragg, Ft Drum, Ft Hood and played that bases team...we did pretty good as a team. Good luck on what your trying to accomplish

I agree with your approach 100%.

Getting a list of OTHER countries who have official military pool playing members of their forces and the contact info for those entities would be good to share with them as well.

AZ Billiards Main Forum members might be able to help you find that information as well.
