Help buying first cue.

Hey guys, I am decently new to pool but play it religiously. I feel that its something I could really get good at and take seriously so I dont really care about looks im trying to find moreso a performance cue for around or under $200.

I had a couple people recommend the cuetec with R360 shaft which comes in at about 220, a bit steep but am considering it.

I also ran into cuemaker travis jazz? I dont really know what to expect with his cues seen here: http://www.jazzpoolcuesofflorida.com/

he said i could get something im looking for for 150-200 at his shop and test a few out.

But coming from a golf background I know that its easy to sell a beginner on equipment so I want to make sure im making the best purchase possible for me.
Ive only ever used house cues so im pretty sure ANYTHING would feel better and id be sold on it.

Also looked at some mcdermott cues and while they look great may be a bit steep for me.

Any Advice??
 
You can get a Cuetec R360 for $176 for the base model. An entry level McD w/ G-Core shaft for $204. I think either of those would be a great option at that pice range.

Players HXT cues can be had a little cheaper and are nice too, from what I hear.

If it were me I'd go with the McD, nice US made cue with a good shaft at an entry level price.

In the end, any of those cues are capable of top level play in the right hands.
 
I remember using Player cue for my first cue and then a Cuetec. I encouraged myself that only if I see improvement, I can buy more expensive cues.
 
U can get nice mcdermott for that price or nice players hxt never had cuetech heard there ok
 
You don't give your location. If anywhere near PA. go to the SBE in April. McDermott should be there with hundreds of cues, most at a real good sale price. There will also be thousands of other cues available and you can test drive most of them. Don't be intimidated by the high end stuff. $200. should buy you a cue to play forever. Everything else is sales hype, doo-dads and gee-gaws.

I paid $250 for my Lucasi and it looks and plays good with out any doo-dads or gee-gaws.
You may want to look at Lucasi cues.
Mine is still solid and straight after 6 years of play.
 
I love my 360......even tho i just put it up since my new predator but ive also shot with a couple mcd and in my opinion my 360 feels better......my best friends also has a 360 and a mcd hustler and switches between both so Id say u cant go wrong with either choice

bit of a development, the owner at the hall I play out of is a hell of a player and a good dude.. he let me play with a used cue of his, its a Mike Sigel with a predator z2 shaft.

I'm not sure what he is going to offer me for it, but he knows what my budget is and says we could work something out so im guessing around the 200 mark..

Would that be worth it? over a fresh Cuetec with 360 shaft or a Mcdermotte with Gcore? The butt has a stain on it but my game elevated to a whole new level which is all i care about..Though ive only ever used house cues....

If you play well with it buy it for $200. The shaft by itself new costs about $200 right now. GL with your search.
 
Congrats on wanting to get a new cue... I would say within your 200 price range you have a decent selection of cues to choose from. I personally liked the way older mcdermott cues hit and can be had fairly cheap...there are meucci and a few others that could be had used for around your price. I've had a few players cues as well as a few cuetec. Both of which were nice inexpensive cues however if I was just starting out again instead of purchasing a new players, cuetec etc I would hold out for a good used older mcdermott or meucci...just my .02 food luck either way

ended up buying the Sigel with the z2 shaft for 300.. hopefully that's a good buy, felt like I was getting what I wanted which was something high performance.
 
I think you did just fine and made the right decision to buy a cue you felt comfortable with. GL with your game.
 
a good buy would depend on how u like it.....but tht shaft new is over 200 so id say u got a great deal if its all straight and feels good to u......enjoy:thumbup:
 
If you're new to the game, a z2 shaft might be trouble for you due to how skinny the shaft is. If you have trouble, you may consider trying to come back on here and trading for a 314-2 shaft, which is much much more forgiving (it's a 12.75mm as opposed to the z2's 11.75mm shaft).
