Help deciding between 2 tables

Well i checked all surrounding cities from Columbus, OH and could not find a single 8' gold crown brunswick for sale. ...we weren't too keen on the look of the gold crown ... Guess I should wait and see what other tables come my way on craigslist???

Another vote for Craigslist...and have patience. There will be a great deal sooner or later.

Patience, patience, patience!!

There is some Daimonds being advetised in the for sale section of this forum. They are in a PH in Ohio The light table and some extras are around $2000. Do a search.

I have a Brunswick but If I were to get a table today it would be a Diamond. Be patient and don't jump on anything.

Hi,
I'm new to the billiards buying arena so I need your help. We are currently in the market to purchase a pool table and have it narrowed down to two 8' tables.

1. 5 year old used Olhausen L-sheraton (original owner) that includes balls, 8-ball rack, 4 cues with plus 1 case, bridge, table brush, chalk, a decent pool table light For $995. The rails (accu-fast) seem to be in good shape.
The cost to disassemble, move, and reassemble is 245, plus the felt would need replaced (200). In total this table would cost us about $1350-$1450 depending on how well I can bargain.

2. Brand new brunswick (Contender) Allenton table. I believe the package included 4 cues, a wall mount, balls, bridge, 8 and 9 ball racks, chalk, brushes, and a clear table cover. This would NOT include a light, so i'll probably mount a fluorescent light above for about $50. The cost of this table with installation and tax would be about $2000.

Anyone have any thoughts on what route we should take here? Any insight as to the durability/longevity of these tables? The guy at the pool table store seemed to be making a big deal about laminate (sheraton) vs veneer (allerton).

Thank you!
I am guessing without reading any other answer that my answer was said. First off look at my signature; I own a Olhausen. I would not recommend one to an serious player....so, Diamond & Brunswick top the list for players tables. The rest I have no opinion or experience to give one. But the Olhausen makes a great "Rec Room" table but they have unforgiving pockets the slate is made with holes in the center. The plus side to Olhausen is you will never need to replace the cusion rubber and they are great banking/kicking tables. But If I could do it over again I would have searched for a good used Brunswick GC.

And for the record I have played on more Olhausens then any other table. My own, my ex-girlfriends family, my brother in-law, Master Z's cue club and I am sure there are more in between I can't think of. Getting used to the pocket rattle of death is tough! :banghead:

IMO

Hope this helps!

I have and like Brunswick tables, but the Allenton is a lower quality table. Brunswick makes the "Contender" series as a lower grade cheaper table for those that can't afford their regular line. They do not actually put their name on the table though, because it is of a lower quality. I think you are better off buying the Olhausen, and putting new Simonis 860 or comparable cloth on the table.
