One side of the tip is black, the other side is gray (like the rest of the tip). Which side glues to the ferrule? Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

I would guess the black side gets glued. Can you take a picture and post it?

I would guess the same thing. I don't have time to do a pic on it as I am trying to ready the cue for use in league tonight. Thanks.

It would make sense to me to glue the black side - good luck in league.

phenolic tips shouldn't have one side different than the other, they are just slices cut from a rod. usually they are domed on one side, so you know which is the glue side. if there is no dome, you can probably sand any side and glue it. post a pic..

I completely agree with you, I would add that for a Phenolic Tip I would use Epoxy not Super Glue. To my experience Phenolic tips applied with super Glue tend to pop off. When you combine the riddged nature of Phenolic and Super Glue there is no flex.

Another alternative is a Phenolic Ferrule, which if you do not like it you can put a Leather tip on and use it just like it is.

You could but it would kind of defeat the purpose

What about those carbon fiber tips used on OB-1 shafts? I installed one and it was tough one son of a gun...
