Help!! Lost and missing cues Florida area- Reward

By actually reading the OP's original post, I believe it says that he did tell the person that found the cues that he would give a reward, he simply did not say how much. Personally, I do not think a reward is even necwessary. What the hell ever happened to basic decency and common courtesy? Greed is what is tearing this country apart, and it is RAMPANT! You find someone's property, you return it. Plain and simple.

To the OP: Good luck today brother. I seriously hope you get your precious cues back. And please, let us all know how this worked out.

Yup. Kind of reminds of the recent thread about whether folks should call fouls on themselves. Common decency. I would have returned the cues and refused the reward. But that's just me... :frown:

Wait a second, wasn't it YOUR fault you lost the cues? Why blame the guy that found them for YOUR stupid mistake? Didn't YOU put "Reward if found" on the case? I truly hope you get your cues back, but I think a generous reward is NOT out of the question! I guess it depends on how much you value your cues. Probably not much at all if you were that careless in losing them!
You know maybe this guy is an AZer and read your initial post where you said you will bring 20 of your buddies with you to pick up the cues...I know I wouldn't call again!

Um.......Really?

Wow!! How fortunate for you that you've never lost anything of value in your life. If we were all as perfect as you, this situation would never come up, would it?

Wait a second...you live in central Florida...were you on the east coast recently?

I have lost something of value but was not lucky enough to have someone find it! And, if someone had...I certainly would not post on a public forum that I will show up with 20 of my buddies to pick it up!

Dunkin Donuts More Important

I am in West Palm Beach. I already talked with the sheriff dept. They said no theft has occured. I have a case number, but that is the end of the whole thing as far as they are concerened. No laws have been broken as far as they see.

Obviously donuts are more important to these guys!!!

You're right. Twenty-five would be better. Just to encourage the "finder" to do the right thing.

Please be careful West Palm shows up on COPS A LOT!!!! I think it would be better to let the sheriffs office know what you are doing. I would bet that they could send someone along to make sure you don't end up with a additional hole in you. Which is a good chance that this is headed in that direction.

I agree. This is what bounty hunters do. The police need to know ahead of time. When the homeowners call the police and say there are 20 bikers outside, who do you think the police are going to go after?

I would like to believe this would be the better choice but, as the cops have been so helpful already, this is how I see that scenario playing out;

Guy opens the door and sees 20 bikers and is initially (and rightfully so) concerned. He then sees a couple (or more) cop cars, which he now sees as his protection. Poolpro asks for his cues politely, guy says "cues, what cues?"

Poolpro says "MY cues that you found on the road you f*king DB, can we check"

DB says "no, now get off my property"

Cops say "there is nothing else you can do, you must disperse."

Now you're out of options. If you go back, the cops will be on the bad guys side.

Several years ago I had a similar situation, it wasn't a cue, but the same scenario.
Guy calls from his neighborhood bar, says he has it, I offer a $25 reward.
He ignored me for a week. then called to say that he and his "partner" want $50.
I said fine, called the sheriff, and they went to the bar and got it for me.
Of course the sheriff hit me up for a $50 donation to some police charity fund which I was happy to do.
The sheriff didn't have to go to that bar, but they did.
These days the cops seem more interested in writing traffic tickets than to "serve & protect".

I am sure that the thief/borrower has played these scenarios out in his head several times. I would also assume that after 2 days those cues are in someone else's hands (pawn/pool room/etc) ~hate to say it. I don't think that there is a win here...

I hope you're wrong but, fear you're right. :(

Reminds me of when Ming's cues were stolen from my car in Santa Monica. The full story is in Pool Wars, but the brief version is that they ended up in the hands of druggies, who I paid a $200 reward to. I went alone to the house (at their request, but I was armed) and got the cues back. They wanted the money and I wanted the cues, so it all worked out. I chose not to involve the police in this transaction, for fear it would squelch the deal and Ming would never see her cues again.
